Sharyn, Sinus surgery is painful. But in addition to the sinus infections and tooth pain, I had horrible headaches. So it was worth it for me.

Lucky, I know it's expensive. But the new 4 on 1 technology makes it more reasonable and you can have them all done in one day. My fiancé dental insurance will pay 80%. So that makes it more feasible. I've been saving for a couple of years. I'm not looking forward to the whole process. They say you have a painful week and then a very restrictive diet for about 39 days.

Upsetsister...my dH just checked into getting implants in 2 of his teeth. The estimate was $2000.00 for each implant and $800.00 for sedation without insurance. It's expensive!

Oh yeah Upset, whenever I get a sinus infection, my front teeth hurt and are sensitive to cold.

Before I had sinus surgery I had constant tooth pain on my upper teeth. I would go to the dentist and no cavities. Once I had the sinus surgery the pain went away.

Stacey, thinking of you and family today. You and your husband were a great care exam for your fil!! You provided a home for him during his last years. I hope where ever you chose to vacation, you both relax and enjoy knowing you gave so much!!

Oh, mercury fillings. I didn't know they still used them.

Yeah, those surgical warnings can be scary.

My hubs...autism....mercury fillings....sneezing, sinus issues immediately. We could not afford the other fillings.

You think he had a reaction to something that caused the infection? The dentist said it is temporary and heals but in some cases they have to do a skin graft to cover it. He just wants to be completely honest so I know these things can happen.

I don't know, but there should not be an opening from the tooth to your sinus cavity.
Does that even make sense anatomically?
If you eat cayenne, is that going into a hole, into your sinus?

Maybe I don't get it, but it's okay.

The place on my gums where the tooth was tickled for awhile....I really liked it!
My teeth were too tight anyway.

Hubs had two fillings, weeks apart. Both times he got an immediate sinus infection, within 1/2 hour, and he was sneezing! Returning to the dentist, he had never heard of this, gave antibiotics. Downplayed, big time.

Send, it is a back tooth so not worried it will show. New technique for sinus drainage?
(3)
Report

Sharyn,
I am familiar with the pain, it took only once. I am the proud owner of a missing tooth, on the bottom, far enough back that it doesn't show.
I know you will make the right decision. I am not trying to convince you either way.
But just to re-assure you......
My friend had her tooth pulled after an endodontist tried to cure the abscess taking months of painful treatment. She has the money to do whatever she wants.
So it is not just a financial issue.

And I am thinking....our teeth can really mess with our sinuses....is this the cure for sinus issues, maybe?
Good luck.

Upset, my hubs wants implants too. This is the first toothache I have had since a child. I have a couple crowns but never a root canal. This tooth can be saved but we don't have the extra money now with just having a major move. I am taking an antibiotic and pain meds and will have it pulled next week. The dentist wanted me to think about my options for a few days because with pulling the tooth, the teeth next to it will move over and since the root is in the sinus, it will leave a temporary hole and I may shoot water out my nose, lol!! Of course if a tooth can be saved, they prefer to save it.

Send, I will get it pulled next week. This morning the pain was so intense ( dentist said that is normal) I didn't know if I made sense. Yesterday it felt better because I used those dental floss sticks with the bristles between my teeth. What happened was it broke open the access causing some drainage which released some of the pressure. Oh boy, did it hurt this morning!!! I have norco to take later since the pain is more intense at night and morning.

Kelsey, thank you and yes it does suck.

Thank you everyone, time for a nap, been up since 3:30 am.

Sharyn I hope you get into the dentist today. After the first of the year I'm getting dental implants. I have really soft teeth and grew up in an area with bad water. I dread the process but better than dentures or root canals. PJ got them last year. He had stress fractures from when played football and didn't wear a mouth guard when he lifted weights. He said it wasn't to bad a process. So I have that to look forward to. Good luck today.

Anthem is not available here. We applied for Rengence. Cobra is too expensive. I have no preexisting conditions and with ACA you can't be turned down due to preexisting conditions. I am talking out of anger and pain. I will see if I can get in to a dentist today and have the tooth pulled. I can't afford the expense of a crown or root canal right now. I may have to wait to have it pulled if there is infection but I can't take the pain anymore. I have to see a dentist today.

Sharyn, Your home is where your Iris are being delivered, please don't panic!
I just hated it when my Mother once said to me: "Bloom where you are planted".
Maybe it applies this time. I know you are never leaving little E, your grandson.

You will be okay! Deep breaths.

Major Risk Medical Insurance Plans.
Anthem Blue Cross participates in CA, and they have Anthem in Idaho. Inquire about major risk health plans, a very low premium ( because you are assigned as part of a pool) accepted by the major health insurance companies.

Good News! As part of the pre-requisite to obtain a plan as mentioned, YOU WILL NEED A LETTER OF DENIAL from a health insurance company! You now have that! Keep it, copy it, don't lose it.

Now, keep it simple, and choose a good chiropractor to maybe adjust your jaw-$54.

Sharyn,
There will be an appeal.
Also, there are other insurance options.
COBRA after leaving work, available for a specific time.
MRMIP for pre-existing conditions, assigned risk insurance with several companies, even Kaiser.
These were in California a long time ago.

Yes Upset, we gave the agent everything he said they needed within the time frame. I don't understand!! I told my hubs I just want to go home (California), it was easier there. Lol!!

Sharyn, That's terrible. I've battled insurance problems since 2003 when I was diagnosed with kidney disease. I went without insurance for years because no company would take me because of pre-existing condition. Or, I got offered high risk at over $900.00 a month. Obamacare allowed me to finally get a decent policy at an affordable cost. Now if that's repealed that's probably going to get me bumped. PJ wants to get married immediately and go on his so that if his policy's acceptance policy changes, I'll be grandfathered in if we get married before Oct 1st. Yikes!

The pain is definitely nerve pain and it does come on from talking, chewing. The clove oil cuts the pain if I put it on jaw hinge. Using heat tonight. Send the insurance rejected me but accepted my hubs. Said I was 2 days late getting info to them. I don't know what I did wrong because we scanned and emailed the info before Sept 8.

Everyone who is going to work at the center attended one the group sessions today. Caregivers were enthusiastic about the staff. Staff liked the caregivers and were impressed with all that the caregiver's handle on a regular basis.

I've been very fortunate with money for staff. I got a state grant for elder assistance that runs two years. Got a grant from a private family foundation. Because we got our nonprofit status and we work for community improvement we're eligible to hire work study students from the university and only pay half their salary for 20 hours per week. The student emloyment  office takes care of their checks - taxes, etc. We get a bill every 2 weeks for our part. Our graduate social workers get a monthly stipend and paid by the grad school. It's a hodge podge of payment methods but I got it together and have two years of staff funding and payroll costs in the bank along with other operating costs. Going forward it will be ongoing fundraising. The community has been outstanding. Response from student organizations had been excellent. Every week there has been some form of financial support or gifts. We have big stockpiles of Depends, Chux bedpads, bed socks with gripper soles, other personal care items, Ensure. We also have gift cards for a variety of things, especially drug stores to help with medications. Someone in the community is always coming up with something. As a local businessman told me "we'll all be old someday and it might be my son or daughter who will need support taking care of me as an old guy".

DDDuck, I used to have to deal with toothaches, but now I have no teeth! Actually, tho dentures can be difficult, at least no more dentist stuff and pain....
Rain and a high of 49 coming Saturday - yahoo! If I never see another 95 degree day....
Anyone want some good news? Woke up Sept 2 and decided to call my brother on his birthday; he has refused to speak to me for 20 years this year and thank the Lord, he TALKED with me for about 20 minutes, NICELY - no mention of our estrangement! Not only that; today my mom apologized to me; said she had never in my life disciplined me with love, and God was working on her; she was very sorry and would I forgive her... I couldn't talk, and my husband was speechless when I told him - see you guys, there's sometimes light at the end of the tunnel. God bless you all!

Stace, I am so sorry, but I know you must have all kinds of mixed up feelings, and now so much to do. But the light is at the end of the tunnel. You and hubs did a wonderful job caring for him for so long, and before that others. I do not know how you did it. Thinking of you and yours. Take it easy on yourself and think about that vacation.

Stacey, I add my condolences as well, but also hope that you and your family recognize how much you gave to him during the last years of his life. You provided invaluable support, and from your posts I can tell that you have gained so much insight in the process.

I hope the next few days are as peaceful for you and your family as they can be.
