"Uber recently announced a major update to make its app more senior-friendly with the nationwide rollout of two new features: Senior Accounts and Simple Mode. These are designed to simplify the ride-hailing experience and support older adults. Here's what you need to know:
1. Senior Accounts (via Family Profile)
Larger text, simplified interface with fewer buttons and easy-to-follow screens.
Family member or caregiver can set up and manage rides, including booking rides for the senior, managing payment methods, and tracking the trip in real time.
Saved favorite destinations for quick and easy bookings .
Flexible payment options, offering use of personal cards, family member cards, or even eligible Medicare flex cards for medical rides
2. Simple Mode (independent use)
A simplified version of the app for seniors who prefer independence, featuring large icons, clear text, and minimal buttons
Seniors not connected via a Family Profile can still enable Simple Mode by going to Account → Settings → Accessibility
Launched June 4, 2025, across all U.S. users, and rolling out in select international markets including Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Portugal, France, and South.
With a rapidly aging population, these features help reduce transportation barriers and improve mobility and independence for older adults.
They also offer peace of mind to caregivers, giving them tools to ensure safe travel and coordination."

It's great Uber is doing this. Makes life easier for seniors.

I have found riding in taxis in NYC to be a lousy experience.. It is overpriced with the drivers being rude and many taxis are dirty. I always take Uber.

cwillie, a few years ago I went on a trip to D.C. with friends and we Ubered everywhere. Using the app was easy, the drivers were great, it was awesome. I have not had good experiences in taxis: rude drivers, overcharging, etc. Also, depending on where you live in the US there may be no taxi companies, like in the town in S.E. Florida where my recently passed Aunt lived. My former next-door neighbor became widowed and moved to the next town to a CCC here in MN. Her son (who lives in CO) arranged an Uber for her to come to our quarterly block gathering and it worked great since, at 91, she knew how to use her iPhone.

I don't get why everyone would rather Uber than call a taxi: random stranger vs company with rigorous licensing and inspection requirements 🤷‍♀️
