A great new development for you and such a deserving one. You are not a negative Nelly. I am always impressed with how you continue to correspond on others posts with a clear head. You may not feel you have a clear head but your precise remarks show that. I can't imagine posting anything if my head was spinning and experiencing frequent sheer exhaustion. Hoping the tapering helps.

Sp, asked my DH about the Gatorade being salty, he said no. But...he drinks it when he has sweated alot. It pours off him. He is not a big drinker normally either so probably is dehydrated most of the time.

I just tasted it, and not salty to me.

When I told my doctor that I didn’t always drink enough water, she told me that it didn’t have to be tap or bottle water.

First of all, the tap water in our area isn’t the greatest. I buy bottled water to drink.

She said if I was tired of bottled water that I should drink mineral water, and even the carbonated ones are fine as long as they don’t have sugar added to them.

Mineral water is still hydrating and has supplements that are good for us.

My doctor said that mineral water replaces electrolytes, supports bone and heart health, plus it prevents constipation.

I like it with a squeeze of lemon or lime.

Bdub, best of luck to your dad with the Ketruda and Yervoy treatments......brutal stuff. Prayers sent he has minimal side effects to contend with and that the cancer is removed from his body completely.

I'm feeling worse today than yesterday but I'm not surprised.....nature of the beast. I'm ok, just not great.

What's weird is all my facial hair has been growing in pure white the past 4 months, due to the depigmenation process that happens w immunotherapy. This includes eyelashes which is VERY WEIRD. As of yesterday, my upper lip hair is coming in BROWN. Which makes me think the poison is LEAVING my body after 4 months. Idk this to be true.....just a guess. I hope so.

Ty send......lol. Ward thanks you too 🤣

RD, I feel clear headed......I just feel more negative lately/weepy/sorry for myself due to the prednisone taper. Posting here on A.C. keeps me OUT of my own head and that's a good thing....lol.

Gershun, thank God you didn't fall in the shower! Gives me the heebie-jeebies to even think about you balancing on one leg in there 😑

FG. Amen to getting back to a normal way of life. Until it's taken away, we don't realize the importance of everyday actions (like the ability to walk) we take for granted.

Oh, praying for a nice brown mustache, if it means that the poison is exiting!

Also, for this taper to just give you a break!

Report

Wow, Lea. A brown moustache. Yay!!!! That sounds like something good is happening inside! White eyelashes is very weird. You need to paint them in glitter. There must be such a thing as glittery mascara. Come to think of it I believe mother's eyelashes went white at some point but just from age. I don't necessarily wish to live to 100 or over, but it could happen with the family genetics on both sides so I have to be prepared for it. Longevity is a mixed blessing I think.

"Ok, just not great" is better than terrible and we are waiting for great!

.
Bdub -so sorry your dad is going through that disease and those treatments too.

Prayers all around for protection from ill effects of treatment and for total healing from cancer.

“Glitter, sparkle, and shine but most of all be kind.”

Yes Lea, I was an absolute idiot come to think of it. Soaping myself down on one foot while hanging on to the side of the shower. Afterward, I'd sit on the edge of the tub for a few minutes cause I'd be so exhausted. Funny how the ER doc just sent me home with crutches, recommended a boot, but didn't offer any other advice. Thank goodness for Google. I have facial hair but it grows in blonde so it's okay. Lea, I think you'll need to write a book after this is all over. You express yourself so colorfully that I'm sure it would become a best seller.

Joann thanks for the update on the Gatorade. I knew my DH was pranking me or he just wanted the Gatorade for himself. 😄

sp,

Drink a margarita instead! LOL 😆 At least you will have a tasty drink in a beautifully salt rimmed glass.

I think of Gatorade, Powerade and Jello as something that doctors tell us to drink at certain times. Oh, and broth too! You know, the clear liquid diet.

Yes to G&T "therapy" ;-) New fave cocktails: Dark & Stormy: Goslings ginger beer with Mount Gay dark rum and a big squirt of fresh lime. Absolut Mandarin Orange vodka with tonic and an orange slice or splash of OJ (very refreshing in hot weather). Not sure this cocktail has a specific name.

To fg's post - Amen and amen!!!

Praise to You, oh Lord who heals the sick and has compassion on those who are suffering.

Lea, I "see" you as getting better and better. May God speed up this process and restore you to a normal level of functioning soon.

Estate sales and glitter, and Lea back full force!

As far as any form of alcohol therapy goes, it's not for me. My view is that if I need alcohol therapy then I need a counsellor/therapist even more than alcohol or anything else to help me deal with my realities. Not for me, never has been. I've seen too much damage.

FG, amen!! I feel like tiny steps are being made here in my healing....at least I hope that's true. I am walking more often in the hallway to regain muscle strength I've lost over the past 5+ months of lying around. It's scary how fast the decline is. Ugh. I'm stretching a little too, but it's hard w balance issues at play.

Insofar as cocktails go, I don't drink but have no issue with those who do. When I did a Mexican themed Easter here, I made frozen margaritas for everyone w/o an issue. It took me a while to get to that place, but once I did, it was fine. We keep wine and a few other booze items here for cooking purposes and they're not an option for me, period. Chuck is a non drinker too, has been since he was around 18 and vomited after getting drunk. He said he'd NEVER drink again and he hasn't! He's one of those Militants too.......where if there's a bit of liqueur in a dessert like Tiramisu, he won't eat it. I remember when we were dating and went to Cancun. He mistakenly picked up a gin and tonic from the bar table we were sitting at and took a big sip. Omg he nearly DIED. For hours afterward he was melting down 🙄. It almost made me rethink my interest in him. Almost. 🤣😃😂

Lea, that's awesome!!! I am so glad that you are recovering more muscle strength. Loss of muscle happens very fast - it starts in days, but thankfully can be recovered

To clarify, I am not militantly against me or anyone else having an alcoholic
drink. I have had the alcoholic drinks.

What I am against for me and anyone else is the heavy use of alcohol on a regular basis to deal with feelings/problems. That's when I believe people would be better off going to a therapist. When 2-3 drinks a day become regular for
anyone, I believe they are endangering their health.

For women more than 7 drinks a week is considered heavy drinking by current NIAAA standards.

Golden, no, Chuck is militantly against booze. I've had enough alcoholic drinks to serve 10,000 people a lifetime, I'm sure. I'm opposed to using alcohol or drugs as a means of escape myself, or as an addictive substance, but I "get it" bc it takes one to know one. It would be great if everyone recognized the addictive properties of certain substances, their tendency toward abusing it, and how good of an idea it'd be to go to therapy before an issue developed. Trouble is, it feels good TO escape and before long, wham. #Truth

I'm not a drinker either. A nice glass of red wine if I'm going out to dinner sometimes but other than that no. My siblings all drink too much. Every get together everyone would get absolutely wasted. I overheard my niece say to her boyfriend once "They're all a bunch of alcoholics" I thought, how sad.

But as I've said before on here there is a lot of dysfunction in my family and alcohol is just another symptom of that.

You know how doctors asks a new patient if they drink. Well, I said, yes. She asked me how much. I said, maybe once or twice a year. She laughed and said, “That doesn’t count! I am putting you down as a non drinker.”

Report

Lea, it doesn't do that for me so I know I don't "get it" though I accept that some people get an escape from alcohol. Having seen the damage it does, I get concerned, as I do for anyone who smokes or vapes, or does drugs or...I know/know of of several women who have died on their 50s from heavy drinking. It negatively affects women at a younger age than men.

When we covered that material in class when I was teaching, most students were shocked. They didn't realise what they were doing to their bodies. It's basically the same idea as Alva posting about NSAIDS. Easily available and socially acceptable substances are not necessarily safe for us. I believe it is important to be informed so we can make wise choices.

Continuing to pray for your improvement and your strength to increase.

Past 2 days have been back to rough for me, unfortunately. Extreme dizziness at about a level 8, so no rhyme or reason to this chaos, as usual. No muscle building exercises for me bc when I'm this dizzy, it's all I can do to function. Just when I start to feel a bit of hope, it gets shot down again and I feel like I'll be saddled with this condition permanently.

Mayo contacted Chuck...his liver donor family answered his thank you letter he sent them last summer! We are thrilled to have gotten an unexpected response and are awaiting it's arrival in the mail w/i the next week or so.

Report

Lea, Sorry that you are having a difficult time.

That’s exciting to hear a response from the donor. How does that work? I am assuming that if they would choose to remain anonymous that they can. Or do people know the source?

It is an interesting process, isn’t It? Donor transfer to another person. Overall, medical practice is fascinating! We have come so far.

If only our ancestors could come back to see just how far we have come. They would be amazed. Years ago people died.

I think about how far medical practices will take us.

Like most teenagers I read tons of books. I read about test tube babies. Never in my life would I have ever dreamed that I would have grown up and had three in vitro fertilizations myself, yet I did. None were successful for me but they certainly have been successful for others.
