You do not make chili from a can, send.😉 You heat chili from a can. Or doctoring up a can of chili?

I need to try to find Armor chili. My taco bell go to was a chili cheese burrito and less than two bucks. It probably wouldn't be as tasty at home. From internet sources, armor is the closest. I tried Hormel chili without beans and that did not cut it.

Making Chili now, from a can. Cutting up steak. Making a very small amount so no leftovers. 🍲 The refrigerator is full.
Corn on the cob and cornbread would be nice too. But NO, we had a nice salad earlier.

Now I have a food whine - why doesn't anyone make good sausages any more??

When I was young my local butcher was known for his sausages, and it was one of my favourite meals. I think they were simply pork, salt, garlic and cracked pepper and we bought it in a long coil, probably with natural casings because I don't remember them having the tough shell that so many sausages have today. Depending on who made them they might be a little too fatty or kind of heavy on the pepper, but those fatty sausages just made extra good gravy to spoon over the plain boiled potatoes they were usually served with. Mmmm.

I'm making crack slaw, egg roll in a bowl or whatever you want to call it tonight. I did a fast walk to the grocery store because I wanted some garlic sausage to put in it but all they had was some store made blueberry sausage??? or honey garlic and johnsonville brats - not the flavour profile I was going for. After much dithering I opted for some lean ground beef marked $2 off, so for under 3 bucks I got plenty enough for tonight and a burger tomorrow.

My brother took me out for dinner at a wonderful restaurant. I had filet mignon with a red wine sauce, rosemary roasted potatoes and spring vegetables .Dessert was tasty, hummingbird cake with lavender vanilla bean ice cream. It was just my brother and I. Sat outside in a tent with beautiful flowers and a gorgeous view. Waiter was great. Lovely to get out and relax.

Ali, I have found that you need a bit of sugar with red wine vinegar, honey doesn't do the same thing, in my opinion.

Your salad sounds yummy.

I was craving a spinach salad after reading Golden's post the other day, so I made one with baby bella mushroom slices, onion, bacon, feta, and threw in some salmon from a pouch for good measure on the nutrition front. I love making new dressings at home and put one together from looking at a few things online: honey, Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. It turned out well and I'm happy with my ad hoc dinner. I think ACV vinegar would have been a better choice, and less mustard, but still very good. It only needs a smidge of mustard to make the dressing creamy and the flavor goes a long way.

EB,

I love the flavor of buttermilk in biscuits and pancakes! It is healthy. Yogurt is a good alternative for milk too.

I thought buttermilk is a healthier alternative to milk. It has good bacteria and has other health benefits as well.

Pam,

When my oldest daughter was living in Alabama, her car insurance went down because in New Orleans we have drive through daiquiri bars! People are not supposed to drink them while driving but I suppose that we are considered as having a higher risk of an accident because of the drive through daiquiri shops.

You mentioned caffeinated booze. There are several liquor options to put in coffee! Brandy is good, so is Kahlua.

cwillie: Thank you for that. I appreciate the correction on buttermilk. I was always recalling dad drinking it every day as well as glasses of baking soda.

Buttermilk isn't unhealthy Llamalover, traditionally it's the liquid left over after the butter is made and is low fat.
Huh, wiki says modern buttermilk is cultured whole milk. But it's still low fat.

Chris: Thanks. That clotted cream sounds interesting. My late father, who died a young death at age 50 of cardiac arrest drank buttermilk. Not good for his heart, but as my mother said he "wasn't a doctor person."

I love Irish coffee,, never heard of gin in coffee.. But once many years ago a friend and I read a recipe for Viking coffee.. yep,,, vodka! We will never forget that night,,, what we remember of it anyway,, she had to call out of work the next day.. I drug myself in ( I was managing a video store at the time and could collapse in the office) We still laugh about that all these years later. Nothing like being drunk and caffinated,,,

The chef is here once again and the kitchen is smelling so good. Mom wanted a taste of some of the meals. He made broccoli and red pepper quiche, shepherds pie, salmon chowder, mac and cheese so creamy and light. He works so hard. I am so grateful.

Okay, does anyone like English coffee? Gin!

I know what Irish coffee is but, I have never heard of English coffee and I was taken aback by the gin.

I thought tea was what the English drank. Great tea by the way. Oh, Irish tea is really good too. So much more refreshing than the stuff on most American shelves.

Oh and Polish tea is the best pick me up I have ever had. To bad it can not be found in America.

Cwillie, I just cannot make scones! They turn out like flat heavy biscuits, even with the egg added! Thankfully DH is the scone tzar in our house. Nothing wrong with just tasting the booze and cream in your drink, even if the coffee was horrible - who cares?!!!

Iced coffee is very much a thing Chris, as well as coffee flavoured ice cream and yogurt. Mmm coffee.
Back when I was young we used to order Irish coffee after a day of cross country skiing. The bar coffee was likely horrible but all you could taste was the booze and cream (whipped cream here)

Once the internet became a thing I spent some time trying to figure out what the difference was between a scone (considered very high brow) and a biscuit, apparently it's eggs. Hm. I guess I've always been making scones .......😂
I also always make them into triangles because it's so much easier than fiddling around cutting circles and dealing with scraps.

Beatty, Irish coffee on a bitterly cold day is so indulgent and wonderfully warming. In theory iced coffee would be good now in this hot weather, but I don’t think that’s ever really taken off hugely in the UK. I know iced tea is a thing in the US, but is iced coffee served too? I think we’re more into milkshakes and fruit smoothies.

When in Ireland I was asked did I want English or Irish coffee? Well.. my Irish coffee arrived with a hefty dollop of (I suppose) clotted cream on top & a very big drop of Irish whiskey underneath. Warmed my innards alright!
