LL, clotted cream is very rich, thick cream, even thicker than double cream. It isn’t pourable - you use a knife to scoop it up and on your scones. Terrible for your cholesterol levels but an occasional delicious treat! I don’t think we serve it with much else other than on scones with jam.

Chris: Those scones, jam and clotted cream sound super yummy. Like NeedHelpWithMom, I also love scones - my favorite being Panera Bread's orange with icing. I've never had clotted cream. Is it similar to cottage cheese?

Golden: I am not a consumer of chocolate. I was given a gift of chocolates for my 70th birthday and my DH ended up taking it to the bowling alley for people to devour.

Chris,

Picnics were very popular when I was young. I loved them! Great food, a baseball or volleyball game was always fun, etc. I wish more people had picnics. Every now and then, my husband and I will pack a picnic lunch and a bottle of wine to take to the park.

Your son had the right idea to unwind after his hard work at the university.

Talking of treats, my DS finished his Uni exams yesterday. He and his friends were going to treat themselves to a picnic hamper of nice food to eat whilst punting along the river. They deserve some fun. It's been a hard year of all work and very little play.

NeedHelp, I agree! I am usually the virtuous one with my lean meats, fruit and veg, but this afternoon I had to do an errand in town. I thought I'd call in to a nice store and pick up some goodies. My grocery basket was just scones, cream, jam and shortbread biscuits for a nice treat.

Chris,

Your scones and jam sound delicious! I love scones. My favorite are cranberry and orange scones that are sold at my favorite local coffeehouse. My second favorite is blueberry.

I am always intrigued by shoppers in line at the grocery store that are buying just a few items like, wine, ice cream and chocolate! They look like fun people and I feel like such a bore with my vegetables, yogurt, chicken and so on.

We should treat ourselves sometimes, right?

Llama it was. I had the rest of it for lunch.

Update on the special chocolates. The coconut coffee tasted of coffee but really no coconut flavour, but it was good. The last piece of lemon ginger was nicely lemony and all pieces tasted of ginger. I would order it again just for the ginger. They had an orange bergamot but were out of it. That sounds good to me. I am looking forward to their new flavours. It seems they run trials of new ones. I presume they will incorporate the popular ones in their regular stock. Of course, what I like may not be what everyone else likes. Must give them some feedback.

Yes I do make some Amish dishes, mostly casseroles for breakfast. Our neighbors were Amish, and sweet people. I ate at their house many times as a child as their youngest daughter was my age and we were BFFs when young,, living in the country we were the nearest neighbors, and her parents and mine got along great.

Hi Barb,
What kind of salmon do you buy at Costco?

Arroz = rice
Frijole = beans

Rice and beans Luckylu, in another language, Lol. Don't worry, I had to look it up to order it!

So, basically, it was chicken, rice and beans wrapped in a flour tortilla,

Sendhelp,
No, I didn’t catch anything. Others weren’t doing much better. Still it was a very relaxing time. Next week if we get a decent day I’ll take my wife out fishing. We’re looking forward to that.

Pam,

I have always been intrigued by the Amish community. I bet it’s fun to go to the Amish market near you. New Orleans has an eclectic mix of people but no Amish people! Do you cook any Amish recipes?

We had an interesting shop here with a totally different culture. It’s no longer in business but they had cookbooks and other things for sale. The Kitchen Witch. You have the Amish shops. We have witches in the kitchen! LOL 😆 Not unusual for us though, we also have a vampire community, and of course, Voodoo.

Our very own Anne Rice became famous writing books about vampires and held many vampire balls here. With COVID the ball has been a virtual experience. Anyone interested in drinking blood 🩸? Hahaha. One of my favorite Halloween celebrations was when my husband and I dressed up as a vampires for a friend’s party. Halloween is huge here.

Well, that was way too much food.
Enjoyed it, wrapped it in a tortilla,
Put all the tamales away. Fresh, packaged, but no instructiones to heat.

Went online to order Mexican from a restaurant.
Changed to an Instacart order from Vallarta, a Mexican grocery.
Looked up what "arroz" meant, and Frijol Frito Frio-got that too.
Coming with 3 kinds of tamales, and a roasted chicken. And pico gallo.

Beans, rice, chicken, and tamales. Did I get that right? We will see.
I am very hungry!

Kingsford precooked bbq ribs (just heat and eat), Bob Evans Original Mashed Potatoes (just heat and eat) with cream style corn on top. Mississippi Swamp Cake with Cool Whip topping for dessert.

Today was a respite day: I went fishing for a few hours and then home to fix an easy meal.

I would like to add I’m glad I found this Caring Forum. It’s like the caring group I attended before the pandemic. Y’all are great!
