Elaine and NGI,

I want to do Chili too. Does chili freeze well?

NGI,

I bet that centerpiece was beautiful! My favorite as a kid were the sugar eggs! They are so pretty and of course, I still love my chocolate bunny at Easter!

Not a peeps fan.

I do like jelly beans and forget the cream filled eggs, 🤮 yuck!

I'm so glad you were able to get it cooked so it would be tender. Once I find a right cooking time, I always write it down for next time. I noticed a recipe said 90 minutes for a 2# piece plus, I know there are two different cuts I think which changes the shape/thickness in portions of the meat. I usually get the flat ones where the meat is more evenly shaped.

I want to make the chili soon while it's still cold outside!

Now, I think you're getting really "stoked" to use the pot!!

We cooked chili in it last week and it came out great!! We cooked the hamburger over the stove in a frying pan first and then threw all the ingredients together in the instapot for 10 minutes on pressure cook.

It came out delicious!!

Nobodygetsit and Needhelpwithmom, I just took the corned beef out. It was a very thick chunk of meat. It came out soooo much better cooking it longer and the taste is incredible!!!

Total cooking time for corned beef to come out tender on the inside as well as the outside is 1hour 45 minutes.

You're probably right about the "slow cooker" function being a marketing tool - just what we need right? More marketing tools to "suck" us in! I still want to look into what people use it for.

My mom and I would always color eggs for Easter. One year when I was an adult and married, she made the most beautiful colored eggs as our Easter Dinner table centerpiece. It's too bad we couldn't just keep them for future use!

Hey, did y’all hard boil eggs at Easter to dye?

I loved that as a kid and I did it with my kids too. Would have been great to boil all of those eggs.

My kids were social butterflies so we always had extra kids joining in on the fun.

NGI,

I think they added the ‘slow cooker’ so it can replace our other appliances! LOL

Marketing! But I am keeping my slow cookers. I have two sizes.

Elaine,

It’s a new way to cook! There is a learning curve. This is my first time using a pressure cooker. I don’t have a stove top model so it’s a brand new method of cooking for me.

We are going to get some things right and screw some things up!

Or at least we will need to tweak it until it’s the way we like it.

Practice, practice and practice some more!

NGI has my mouth watering for the ribs!

The making hard boiled eggs in the instant pot sounds like something I would like to try too. I make hard boiled eggs on the stove every week for my husband's breakfast before going to work.

Even if I add salt to the water and put them in ice water when done, some of the eggs are so hard to peel that part of the actual egg comes off with the shell. I never used to have that problem until the last couple years. It's very annoying and doesn't look so nice when I slice it in half.

That's a bummer that the corned beef was a little tough for the time required of 75 minutes but, glad the vegetables came out just right having cooked the beforehand.

I'm wondering if the recipe for the corned beef mentioned anything about the weight of the piece of corned beef?

I hope the additional time makes it more tender but, it sounds like the taste to this point is very good!

One video showed a girl cooking 6 eggs in the instapot. She set them on the trivet and cooked for 5 minutes and then put them in a bowl of cold water with ice cubes to make them peel easier. They looked delicious when she cracked them open. I’ll have to try that too.

Some guy on the video said his figure is starting to take the shape of the instapot, lol.

My husband and I have been on a diet for one week. We weigh in tomorrow. We have been using portion control so we have left overs for 3 days, lol.

Nobodygetsit and Needhelpwithmom, the corned beef was tender and juicy on the outside but a little tough on the inside.

I put the corned beef back in the instapot for another 30 minutes to see if it makes a difference. The vegetables came out just right cooking them beforehand!!

I’ll let you know if cooking another 30 minutes makes any difference. The taste was delicious!!!

Sounds like you're cooking up a storm over there - you already sound like a pro with your corned beef dish. Anxious to hear how it came out - wonder if it will be a lot different than cooking it the traditional way as I know corned beef has a coarse-like texture.

I remember watching a couple YouTube videos of even making hamburgers in it and tried both methods - one from a chef and one from just a regular guy. I think it's interesting that a lot of guys love to use it whether they're professionals or not.

No, I have never used the preset "slow cooker" on my instant pot. I actually had to go look at it to see if mine even had one.

I'm wondering why it would be used and I think it's kind of ironic because we probably got the instant pot so it would be super quick plus the fact I think I had a total of four crockpots - two large ones, one medium and one mini!

Nobodygetsit and Needhelpwithmom, I cooked the potatoes, onion, green peppers and carrots first in my instapot for 7 minutes. I kept them warm in a bowl with foil. I placed the corned beef with 3 cups water and 1 cup beef broth and set it on pressure cook for 75 minutes. It’s cooking right now. I will write back later and let you know how it came out.

Im buying ribs tomorrow and will be cooking them in my instapot too this week. I’ll let you know how they came out. There are a lot of YouTube videos for instapot recipes that help a lot!!

That’s what I like too, sharp or extra sharp cheddar! Yum.

I never buy mild cheddar cheese.

NeedHelp, I like just a plain Vermont sharp cheddar cheese omelet. When we used to go out for brunch back in the day before Covid, I would order a cheddar cheese omelet with peppers and onions for something different. I love cream of wheat too with banana, berries with a little light cream. I like blueberry and pecans in my oatmeal with a little pure maple syrup. I love quiche with a nice salad.I feel like having all four at the moment.

cwille,

That is a good one. I like eating an omelette anytime, breakfast or dinner.

In the south, we have a choice of grits or hash browns and biscuits or toast.

I am the only kid in my family that eats cream of wheat and oatmeal. Daddy ate them and I wanted anything that daddy ate except for liver and onions! 😂 LOL

One of my favourite things to order at home style type restaurants is the western omelette, it usually comes with toast and home fries and besides being cheap and filling it's almost guaranteed to be delicious.

EB,

Do you have a favorite omelette? I like them all! I love spinach omelette, mushroom, potato and onion, ham and cheese, chili and cheese, etc.

Same with quiche. I love all of them.

I saw a recipe with crabmeat the other day that looked good.

NGI,

Another question for you with the instant pot if you don’t mind, please.

Have you tried the slow cooker function on yours?

America’sTest Kitchen says the model that I have does very well on the slow cooker setting.

Golden,

I love split pea, black bean and lentil soup!

Thank you "golden,"

Sounds like you make a lot of good things in your electric pressure cooker too.

I hope you are inspired to make the ribs some day. I just love how it seems like you slaved over it for hours. It's fun to just throw things in the pot and wahla or viola - just like dining out minus the excess money spent! Maybe I need to ask for a "tip" - lol!

Beans are great in my electric pressure cooker (like an instant pot). Rice is too. I make split pea soup in mine as well - much faster than on the stove. Al this talk of ribs has me thinking abut doing some one day. NGI - you describe so well how you do them. They sound awesome.

"NHWM,"

You're welcome. I would think beans as well as rice would be a terrific thing to make in the pot along with soups and stews. I want to make pulled pork and sloppy joes too.

As for the cheesecake - never met a cheesecake I didn't like! I'll have to see how they make it in the pot as I haven't seen that yet.

Let me know what you think of the ribs when you make them. I have a new package of them right now waiting to be made and devoured - lol!

I think I already see more enthusiasm than when you first got it!! :)

Thanks so very much, NGI. Going to try soon.

I did beans in it awhile ago. Perfect! I tried rice too. That also worked well.

Oh, forgot to mention that my husband jumped on the ‘cheesecake’ train that everyone cooks in the instant pot. Very good!
