gladimhere, jackfruit is another large tropical fruit (often much larger than a durian). Both can usually be seen in Asian supermarkets, but they are unrelated botanically. The jackfruit is shaped more like a melon, is usually more distinctly green than olive, and is completely covered with bumps that aren't pointed. The jackfruit doesn't have the distinct "aroma" of the durian. Jackfruits can be grown in climates that aren't quite warm enough for durians--that is, jackfruits can tolerate lower winter temperatures than durians, the latter rarely being grown more that 20 degrees of latitude on either side of the equator.

Fish and chips with cabbage salad - a healthier, home made version😇, not the calorie laden deep fried 🤤🤤🤤 meal available from my local restaurant.

For tomorrow I bought a small turkey and will roast veggies along side... if I'm feeling ambitious in the morning I may make some yeast coffee cakes and/or a stollen.

I think they were talking about durian Glad. I've seen it on TV but not in real life, it is supposed to have a very disgusting smell that makes it something only those who grew up eating it can love.

Lama - Robin Williams was only diagnosed shortly before he took his life, one has to assume that was the tipping point.

quesadillas: flour tortillas grilled on a cast iron pan with lots of butter and CHEESE.... add fresh avocados and fresh salsa...yumm... grilled meat if you want. grilled veggies.. onions and peppers...zuccinini, mushrooms, what can go wrong?
add a bit of teriyaki sauce to the veggies, slap on that onto the plate next to the cheesy goodness, and:
add any variety from there only goes up...
If you have an authentic mexican bakery nearby.. they whip those tortillas up fresh... nothing better than fresh bread, and thin tortillas are a wonderful flour concoction like crust, bread, etc.
If you like tamales look up instant pot tamales. or renditions.. they are good. and you can make them ahead of time.

Can't find the discussion about the olive green fruit, football size. Right fruit? We have that fruit here, larger than a football, more medium watermelon size. They don't sell very well as the store usually only has a couple of them. I had never seen it before until I was here. Large Mexican American population here. Maybe it is a cultural food?

They are called Jack fruit. Is that what was described somewhere I cannot find?

NHWM--I've never seen that show, but it looks as if you are describing the right fruit. It is about the size of an American football and somewhat similar in shape, olive in color, and with claw-like projections over the thick husk. Having one of these falling on your head would be about as much fun as having a (Californian) Coulter pine cone or a (Australian) Bunya cone falling on your head. Inside are soft greenish-yellow sections containing large seeds. It's difficult to describe the smell and taste--let's just say it's an "acquired" taste. Most of those seen in stores in the US come from Thailand and are almost always stored frozen--an unfrozen one is extremely expensive, enough so that I decided to forego an attempt to obtain fresh seeds for planting.

My Mother made fresh Gingerbread cake from scratch, whipped the heavy cream topping with a mixer, served cut in squares.
A Gingerbread house was something I saw in magazines, and thought it would be impossible to eat. Who would want to destroy it, such a nice (food?) decoration sitting out for weeks, with hardened icing to keep it together. ????

Thanks Shell, I did not see Jack.

Shell and Cwillie,
When I posted a minute ago, your last posts were not showing from 3 hours ago, and only appeared after I posted. Also, I am very careful to type in exactly, and proofread before and after posting. There is a glitch causing us all to lose letters, and it is not just this website. FYI.

When my dad was working every Christmas he would bring home a gingerbread house. Sometimes they were a big house, other times they were small and once he brought home one that was a castle. He worked with a lady who made them. My brother and I would steal the gum drop, a small cany cane, I once ate the trees. I remember as a kid thinking how cool they were, but when she left her job...no more gingerbread house. I always wanted learn, but I have no patience to build one and the one time I did it looked like a shack. I admire people who can build them. I am always in awe of the people who can! Those were a few good times in my childhood.

Robin Williams had Lewy Body Dementia and that's why he ended his life. I did not know that until recently. When I was reading about his case, I thought of this forum and realized I didn't know very much about LBD but it sounds very scary to experience. RIP.

I like the A&D ointment for any dry skin on my body, face or hands. It's gooey but it feels nice, it's soothing or something. I got into the habit of using it on my face when I bought a big tub for my grandmother's skin some years ago. :-)

My mom had lovely skin too. I have very sensitive skin. When I was young I suffered from acne and my dermatologist told me "only use the products I prescribe" If I ever strayed I'd pay for it big time with big zits. He'd wag his finger at me.

Now I can use what I want though.😊

NHWM,
Are you thinking of Noxema jars being dark blue? Have you ever used Noxema?
Even the vintage Ponds jars are white, with light blue and light green lids.
I looked it up.
My friend has beautiful skin, so I asked her what she used. All her life, it was Ponds.
That was after a time I could no longer buy my favorite Clarins moisture cream.
And, the price went up way high. Prohibitive, and immoral to pay that much.
Truth, my budget had a whole lot to do with my 'morality' of not spending too much on cosmetics these days.

I don't know how you can sleep all night if you haven't got something on your stomach. A saltine cracker, 1/2 slice toast, two sips of rice milk? Sometimes when added stress is piled on, using food as a calming medicine works in small amounts. Whatever works for you. Not sure, but allowing the body to be in a state of ketoacidosis (by not eating timely) causes one to not want to eat. This state is not healthy, not normal for our bodies. You have mentioned not wanting to eat before. Maybe look into it for yourself?
