Sorry to say, but this site has been so depressing for a few days. I thought I'd ask an average, everyday question....to make us all feel a little more normal today.
I made Eggplant Lasagna, and my BIL and SIL are coming for dinner. They leave for Cali tomorrow to see their beautiful grand daughter.
Sorry, sometimes we just need some REGULAR conversation.......or at least THIS caregiver does.
Llama,
One of my husband’s coworkers was expecting a shipment. Like you said, everything is delayed so he wasn’t initially alarmed.
When a lot of time passed, he called to track it.
He started wondering if his package was stolen because people steal packages off of porches.
Well, he was shocked to hear the truck was stolen that his package was in!
This world is getting crazier by the minute, huh?
After dinner, we made gingerbread cookie houses over Skype. I sent cookie house kits to both of my kids via priority mail over a week ago, and they just got them today. The post office is overloaded and carriers are calling in sick, so I'm not mad.
Apparently there is no artistic ability in our family. All of our houses looked bizarre. We had to peer shame each other to read the directions. We sent pictures to each other of our houses and I hope they delete mine. LOL
I remember those blue jars. I haven’t bought it in awhile.
Are the jars still dark blue or did the packaging change?
Oil of Olay, very allergic to that one, in my teen years.
Guess I will have to stick to Ponds, the old fashioned formula only on my face.
Do not need an allergist to determine just what I am allergic to. After I eat, within 20 minutes, there is a hive on my back.
Yep! No more one stop shopping. We have to use a variety of sources.
Honeybaked ham is delicious.
I skipped dinner but I will eat tomorrow.
Was going to make hamburgers, but after a day of receiving shopping online deliveries, (a total of 6 deliveries, including toilet paper and Clorox Wipes!);
that was a lot of putting away, tracking the orders and credit card charges, etc.
Tweety-bird did receive his dinner today, fresh birdseed. He eats like a bird.
The products came from 6 different stores!
My great aunt used to drown herself in Oil of Olay! God bless her. She was so pretty, even at 98 years old!
You know, she walked everywhere, never drove. I really feel exercise is so important and so few people do it consistently.
She walked to church. She volunteered until her late 90’s! It kept her in good health.
Every year she baked tons of fruitcake.
I don’t like fruitcake but I loved my great aunt and never told her that I didn’t eat it. I gave it to friends that did like fruitcake.
Robin did hide his depression behind his comedy. He was so brilliant at improv.
Benjamin Buttons was filmed here in New Orleans. My godson works with the film industry here.
Hanks is great in anything. I love Big! I still giggle at it all these years later. Was such a cute movie!
Pitt, well he can act and gorgeous too!
Damon is cool too.
I love all of your Williams picks.
There was only one Williams movie that I was disappointed in.
The movie that he played Popeye in. Was a waste of the admission price for that one, but hey, that’s one film.
He’s allowed a free pass for that one, right? One stinker isn’t a bad record!
It’s sort of like some of the very best musicians that have done crappy commercial records for a quick buck to pay the ex wife after a divorce!
More than a few have done it. I cringe listening to those songs where they sold out.
So many have had quite a few ex wives!
Brad Pitt played an old man in a baby's body who as time progressed he aged backwards, in "The Mysterious Case of Benjamin Buttons".
I do not know if Robin Williams played a young boy in a man's body. (Shell?)
However, I loved Robin Williams in these movies:
Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon and Robin as the psychiatrist.
Patch Adams-a doctor who made patients laugh.
Awakenings-
The Fisher King-going after the holy grail.
Well, I can assure you there are a lot of people who aren't feeling it this year either. That was one thing I always say to my husband nearly every year - it's hard to get in the mood when it's nothing but sunshine and 70 degree weather where we live so I know what you mean about snow making it feel like Christmas even though we've never had it having lived here since 1968. The high country gets it but, not here down in the valley.
I told the third one your plan so he was able to escape.
Seriously... they were hard to find this year?? Oh, I'm sooo (hee, hee) sorrry (hee, hee) to hearrr that :) oops, I mean :(
I figured you were just teasing!🙃
Your lucky that I couldn't find the third one! I would have roasted him toasted! Seriously...Ducks were hard to find this year!
NHWM,
I loved all his movies! I just watch the "Awaking," the one I really like is the one were he is a young boy in a man body...Can't remember the name! I fell in love with him on "Mork & Mindy!"
I knew you meant oven - I just wanted to tease you about it! My husband calls "smartphones, dumbphones." With me lately, I've been proofreading my posts not just once but, several times only to go back and STILL find big goof ups!
Oh my gosh, you mean they were Donald Duck's nephews???? And ONLY two of them - that's two, too many!!
How's the Christmas spirit coming along especially now that you have your big tree so beautifully decorated? Are you feeling it now??
My phone does that too! Stupid autocorrect has a mind of it’s own! LOL
Do you have a favorite Robin Williams movie?
He was great! I loved him ever since watching Mork and Mindy on television.
In the oven! My smartphone is not very smart. It will change my words on me. I have to proofread & I didn't on that post! Ugh!!
I was tired...so yes, I threw in my Butt End of my ham! It was a nice little ham!
Donald Duck's nephews are all nicely roasted and they will taste great with my orange sauce!🦆🦆
Don't worry, I only roasted 2 of his nephews!🙃
Yes, that is my big Christmas tree!
Thank you!
You decided to slice up the ham after the ducks were oveR??? They're over alright :(
You chopped up the "butt end" and just "threw" it in the baked beans - I don't want any "butt end" in my baked beans and I don't want them "thrown" in either!
Now about those poor, poor duckies; poor, poor duckies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you get another Christmas tree (avatar) - it's pretty!
I didn't know he passed away!
I just loved Robin Williams. I grew up watching him! He passed away a few months after my dad. I had two broken hearts that year!💔
It’s been a few years now. Yeah, I felt the same way when Robin Williams died. Also Kate Spade. Tragic!
He hung himself. So sad. He overcame so much in his life. He beat heroin but never gave up booze. He did quit cigarettes for his little girl.
He was a chef, had a passion for food, people and travel. I loved how genuine he was.
He was a fantastic host on his television shows. He was definitely a workaholic and exhausted towards the end.
I adored his sense of adventure and a wicked sense of humor which I loved!
Not bad on the eyes either!
He suffered with depression.
Did something happen to Anthony Bourdain?
Is that the smelly fruit that Andrew tried to eat on his Bizarre Food show? He said it was disgusting🤮!
That man ate just about anything but couldn’t eat that! It has to be gross 🤢!
I only watched a few episodes of his show.
I loved Anthony Bourdain! I adored his shows. Very cool guy. Tragic ending for him.
Years ago, during my first trip to Taiwan, I had an opportunity to go to a snake shop, but I declined, mainly because these would have been relatively small snakes, so I figured it would entail picking tiny bits of meat from off the bones. However, I wouldn't mind trying python. I've had snapping turtle, and I couldn't determine that it was any different from beef or other red meats, but it had been stewed so the flavor was probably masked. I've had squid and octopus in Spain, and I found the former salty and slimy, and the latter very "rubbery"--so "no thanks".
One of my favorite memories about food was during the aforementioned trip to Taiwan in which I was invited to a seafood restaurant where there was a gas cooker (for lack of the correct term) at each table, There was one item I didn't recognize, and my host (also a biologist) told me he "couldn't remember what phylum it was" but if there was one on display in the window, he would point it out to me. It turned out there wasn't, but I suspect it was a sea cucumber (which, of course, would be an echinoderm). I'll admit I'm not used to having to go to a level as basic as the phylum to identify a food!
Getting away from meats for a moment, does anyone else here eat durian (or at least is familiar with it)?
My sig-other got a very small ham from his work. I decided to slice it up after the ducks were in the over. This was not a spiral ham like he use to get! Heavy sigh! Anyways, I chopped up the butt end and threw it in with the baked beans. Your dinner sounds way better!
I made a quick & easy dinner! It takes 1.5 hours to prep those ducks!
And what do you mean "poor duckies?" Ha ha ha They're so good!!!🙃🦆
Early,
I love homemade baked beans as well. But today they were out of a can!(
Thank you! I try very hard to make a nice Christmas dinner for my sig-other. Plus, making my dad's food always makes me feel better! I hope you are right about the cake turning out! It does sound super wonderful!🙃
