How funny, that's what I told my husband we would be having - leftover spiral ham with the glaze it came with baked beans along with potato salad, applesauce, side salad, mandarin oranges and maybe some low fat eggnog later. No dessert although I did buy a tray of Christmas cookies today which I hid - for now.

He keeps coming out of his office and asking me how the "ham is doing" which means he wants take out! I'll have to see what happens - I usually give in because I don't want to make anything!

Ohhh, poor duckies!

EB,

Glad you complained. I shop at Whole Foods all the time!

I do read labels on everything. Whole Foods is now owned by a large corporation and isn’t what it was before.

I alternate between Whole Foods, The Fresh Market and other local stores.

I buy some things like toilet paper, foil, freezer bags, those types of things at Walmart.

Sometimes I find certain products (toiletries) on sale at Walgreens cheaper than elsewhere.

I bought frozen peas and never dreamed the product was from China until I read the label when I got home. I usually read all labels but being Whole Foods I did not. I called and complained to corporate.

Polar,

I’m with you! No imported food from China!

I only shop at local seafood shops to buy shrimp and crawfish caught locally.

Walmart sells crawfish from China! No thanks! They even sell it using a ‘Cajun’ name!

I never buy meat or seafood from Walmart but I know some people do. If they don’t read the label they don’t know that they are buying a Chinese product.

Just like the people who bought the dog treats from dollar stores and the poor dogs were dying. They were from China! Awful! So sad.

Glad,

The scientists have to determine if the mercury levels are too high in python snakes. I don’t think I could consume snake!

I do eat eel sushi and sashimi though. Hahaha 🤣

Describe Ostrich for us. What is the texture like? How was it prepared?

Have you eaten raw oysters? VERY popular in New Orleans!

Hi MAYDAY. I would be curious where the shop in your town gets their jerkies from, especially the exotic kinds. There are jerky shops where I live and they get their supplies from China. I'm not touching those. I notice even Costco carries some frozen ready-to-eat meals imported from China. Why? There are none made domestically?

there is a shop in town, or there was,,, who knows with covid...

they specialized in jerkey.. : chicken, beef, snake, some kind of fish, aquatic of some sort...eel? cannot remember...

anyway... tillamook has a good beef jerky... original,.. it is good.. don't know how it compares to others, but I liked it.
then I watch tv.. maybe I should be a vegan vegetable person. beans, rice, cheese... here is my downfall.... CHHHHEEEEESE.... !!!!
here goes my cholesterol. cheese... yikes... can I stop eating? cheese is my staple.... got to start growing my cabbage, and peppers... I love cabbage...
no, I am not talking about the "dolls".

Nope, no python for me. Or frog legs or alligator.

The most unusual thing I ever ate was ostrich. And that was yummy.

What is the most unusual thing you have ever eaten?

MS,

I am not jumping on the python bandwagon either.

I've been told squirrel is very tough meat. I have never tried it - likely will not. As for python... I just don't think so. I'm just not in the fast lane when it comes to food. My goal is for the meal to look nice, taste good, smell good, and not be horribly complicated!

Bridger,

Have you tried snake?

I haven’t eaten squirrel. I have eaten rabbit and dear. I love duck.

My grandpa used to go hunting, fishing too.

I love all seafood, probably my favorite.

I eat fish more often than beef. Next would be roasted chicken. I love that!

Isn’t it funny how people always say everything taste like chicken?

Need, You can get fried rattlesnake in Arizona. And no it doesn’t taste like fried chicken. My dad and brother used to gig frogs and mom would fry the legs. I didn’t care much for them. My husband likes squirrel. Only upside of Covid - my husband and son missed squirrel season.

Just woke up, so it’s coffee time in New Orleans, not dinner.

Anyway, I just turned on the television as I savor my cup of dark roast coffee and what do I see?

A news story on my local news about pythons in Florida. They were describing how invasive they are and are exploring the possibility of them being eaten for dinner!

Anyone up for a python dish?

Interesting? Will it be the next craze like sushi?

Alligator is on menus. Frog legs too,

I wonder if snakes are next...

Scientist are investigating if they are safe for human consumption. Some have said they are delicious grilled!

Are you adventurous? I do eat sushi, sashimi and I have tried gator.

Cauliflower pizza crust from Trader Joe's with Victoria low salt marinara sauce, light cheddar and seriously sharp cheddar cheese Cabot brand. Taste is good but still like regular pizza crust better.

"earlybird," - Where's mine??? Dark chocolate has become my favorite over the years and my husband likes the milk chocolate so that works out great whenever I buy a box of assorted chocolates - we don't have to "fight" over who gets what.

However, when I buy the Ghirardelli 72% chocolate bars as something I can take a small bite of to satisfy my overwhelming sweet tooth (plus the fact they say it's better for you), I'm finding he's eating it more than I am. I have to buy several bars at a time and stash them away so he doesn't eat the last piece and I go to the pantry and there's nothing left!!

"jacobsonbob,"

Your sister makes me laugh - she apparently doesn't know what type of foods people gravitate towards when it comes to "pot-lucks." I can't imagine a confection containing garlic - what on earth???

I have seen those super huge Hershey Bars - one that's 3#'s for approx.$20 + and one that's 5#'s that costs anywhere from $46 - $67 depending on where you buy it. I never tried taking it to the workplace but, that's a little to "rich" (no pun intended) for my blood - sounds good though and it certainly would be the "ultimate chocolate 'pig-out' party"!
(2)
Report

I recall seeing "bulk" chocolate in the past--something that looked like oversized Hershey bars. I've "fantasized" a bit about buying a few of these, bringing them to work and offering my coworkers (and myself) the "ultimate chocolate 'pig-out' party"! Has anyone here ever tried this?

While going to "pot-luck" type events, I've learned that such things as brownies and pizza always get eaten up quickly. After bringing them, I've felt a bit sorry for people who slave in a kitchen for hours while making something that most people don't recognize or want, and at the end of the event 90% of it is still left. For example, my sister loves garlic (the odor of which simply does not appeal to me), and she got the idea to make some kind of confection containing garlic. Her husband and I just rolled our eyes. A day or so after the event, I saw most of them out on the back lawn--if people wouldn't eat them, I'm not sure even ants would want them, let alone birds or squirrels.
