A couple people wanted my recipe for Reuben Chowder. If you like Reuben's you will love this, it is pure comfort food and delicious! I first tried it at a local Irish restaurant and loved it, so I found a base recipe and tweaked similar to what I get at the restaurant.

Here is the base recipe and then I will add my tweaks, but anyone can vary this to taste. At this link you can print the recipe (I preview my print and take out the image so it fits on one page, and then you can write any tweaks on the page and take it to the kitchen)

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/234984/quick-creamy-reuben-soup/

My tweaks:

I use bread bowls instead of adding rye bread, but I have pumpernickel croutons available to throw in there as well if eating the bread bowl itself isn't enough or if you are using oven proof bowls.

For the corned beef I buy good deli meat and ask that they slice it thick. Then I cut it more into chunks than shredding.

I use more Swiss cheeses than called for because I love cheese, and a tad more sauerkraut.

I use beef broth instead of water and bouillon.

I also add small chunks of parboiled potatoes. About two cups.

If anyone makes it, let me know how you liked it!

Planned to make stir fry with chicken, almonds, bean shoots, capsicum & broccoli but too hot to cook inside. So Mr BBQ anything threw the lot on the barbie!

Tasted good! Washed down with a red wine spritzer.

Caramelized cauliflower (unintentionally) I was dealing with the kitties and the pot boiled dry but just enough to caramelize. I added butter, salt and pepper and it was delicious! Had it with some rotisserie chicken (shopped today) and then my usual coffee and chocolate but this time it was mint chocolate - also delicious. May have some fresh blueberries later.

I bought a cabbage with lots of outer leaves so I am shredding them and will saute them, maybe add some caraway seeds. celery seeds and garlic. I'll taste my way through it and steam them a little If needed for tenderness. Love cabbage in any form.

I made Pozole-inspired soup. I had a whole chicken in the freezer that I needed to do something with so I roasted it and then shredded it. For the soup base, I toasted & then softened some dried Chile’s-Pasila, guajila and chile de Arbol & puried them with water making a sauce and added it to 4 cups of chicken stock, half a can of red enchilada sauce and added some Mexican oregano, 2 bay leaves and salt. Tossed in the chicken and a can of Mexican style hominy and let it simmer for an hour. Served it with shredded cabbage and lime wedges. It was delicious! The leftovers will be my lunch all week.

Pam,

Did hubby eat the soup? It’s fun to try new recipes. How many times do we cook the same thing over and over? I have gotten stuck in a rut before.

I get Taste of Home magizine,, the recipes are good and pretty simple. The latest issue had crockpot soups, and one was for a shrimp "soup" you served over rice.. looked more like a gumbo thickness. Hubs was poo pooing it,, but we made it anyway, and it is wonderful! Mom is eating her way through it. And I used frozen cooked and peeled shrimp ( a no no in this house but for speed I was all about it this week) So its a keeper..

I haven't had a lamb chop in years, now that I'm cooking for one I suppose it would be worth the splurge?
(no offence to our posters down under but why is the only lamb available in my supermarket shipped frozen from AUS/NZ when there are flocks right in my neighbourhood?)

One perfect lamb chop!
On my way out the door in a hurry to pick up dH, I grabbed one to taste, it was the best, tender, juicy, hot, just right. So I turned off the toaster oven, needing to keep them warm until I returned.
They were still good upon returning, but less moist, well-done, but I will never have that perfect lamb chop again.....
