Send,

That sounds delicious and refreshing!

I keep looking at the jackfruit at Whole Foods. Have to admit I haven’t tried it yet. Have no clue as to how it taste. I love all kinds of fruits. Love papaya and mango! Louisiana has excellent strawberries. Love all berries. I like bananas with peanut butter and honey on whole grain bread for lunch sometimes. I like apples with peanut or almond butter too. Has to be the peanut butter or almond butter with no added sugar. I don’t like excess sugar. Takes away from flavors. Sickeningly sweet and that’s gross to me.

Fruit Soup
Add fresh fruit, a bit of frozen grape juice, frozen lemonade, and frozen orange juice, stir. By day 4 it starts to become alcoholic in the refrigerator, if you have not finished eating it.

Fruit is Apple's, oranges, pineapple, pears, grapes, cantaloupe, peaches, blueberries. strawberries, raspberries, and so on......

Great end of summer autumn treat.

We’re doing sushi tonight for dinner.

I like the tuna, yellowtail or the salmon. Yummy.

Food trends are interesting. Who would have seen sushi becoming so popular here? I first had it with my friend. I was skeptical but we had a couple of Japanese beers first and asked her what to order and I loved it.

Pam,

Great minds on the gin and tonic. Don’t do light beer though! Hahaha

I like a full bodied beer. Preferably a darker beer although I like a lighter wheat beer in the summer months.

ive made one batch so far that somehow copped an alien yeast strain and now i have 5 gallons of vinegar . come to find out its referred to as ' malt vinegar ' and quite popular in many parts of the world . i sometimes batch up homemade dill pickles so i'll be using my vinegar in the future .

but yea , ive used some pretty questionable ingredients before and came out with phenomenal wine . cantaloupe , cranberry , pineapple , to name a few .

Need.. I love a Gin and tonic! But my main drink is Coors light.. too many years of WW.. But my go to drink for the girls is Birthday cake Vodka and orange juice, or pineapple juice. Those new flavored Vodkas are the bomb!

Send,

Favorite cocktail? Mine is gin and tonic.

Favorite tea? I like them all. Variety is the spice of life.

Favorite snack? Tough one. Same applies. Anything good! Dark chocolate has to be at the top of the list. A really good dip with veggies or crackers. Stuffed mushrooms.

Actually my daughters and I sometimes go to a restaurant and just get appetizers and dessert!

Captain,

Did you ever make a beer where you thought that you messed up and it ended up being great? You know, like Bob Ross used to call his unintentional mishaps in his paintings that he ended up being pleased with. He referred to them as ‘happy accidents.’ It can happen.

Of course not all accidents are happy! Hahaha, I remember accidentally grabbing a can of bathroom foaming cleaner and spraying my hair instead of my hairspray. I was just about to leave for work.

I had to jump back into the shower, get dressed again, fix my hair and makeup again. Of course I was late for work. I couldn’t reach my boss to tell him I was going to be late, before cell phone days, switchboard operator kept putting me on hold. I drove to work. The boss was waiting at my desk for me and asked me why I was late? I was embarrassed but told him the truth and expected him to be mad. Instead he cracked up laughing. He said that is so crazy it has to be true. You couldn’t make up something like that. I started laughing too. He was a great boss. Tough but fair.

molasses doesnt come real highly recommended in beer recipes but i bought two cases of molasses marked down to 50 cents a bottle so it isnt surprising that some of it ' fell ' into the batch of beer .

Captain,

You’re my kind of guy. No nonsense! Real ingredients.

I do think labels are very much a part of marketing. It’s presenting an image. The flip side though is that I appreciate them as a work of art. Many wine and beer labels are really pretty.

Bottom line, it’s how the beverage tastes! That’s more important than packaging. Yeah, packaging isn’t cheap. Same with unnecessary ingredients. I like a specific ingredient if it adds a unique flavor.

I like all kinds of tea. But I am a purist with coffee and tea. No sugar!

needhelp,
ive made wine and moonshine for decades but beermakers always made their hobby sound so complicated -- until -- one day i looked online for ' simple beermaking ' . changed everything . it was written in my language .

" heat the malt up , pour it in the bucket , and STHU " ..
no iris moss , eye of newt , exotic yeast , etc . most beer recipes are a joke . you could end up at 2 bucks per bottle just by being silly .

if i ever felt the need to label my various batches it wouldnt be expensive . id just buy 1000 labels at a time -- all marked " swill " .

Smeshque,

Every time I see sourdough bread I think of California. They have the best! Just like our French bread is good because of our origin. Louisiana history includes the French and Spanish. The French brought their yummy bread and of course wine. The Germans brought the beer!

The battle of New Orleans was an interesting battle. It didn’t even last an hour. Our battle had the French and Spanish against English. Hahaha, my ancestors are all of those. Have French, Spanish and English blood, plus German, Irish and Scottish. Supposedly, I look like my paternal grandmother that I never met. She died before I was born but daddy said I have her blue eyes and her auburn hair. Now my hair is mostly silver.

In my opinion, no one has bagels like New York. Well, New York has so many good things. So much variety!

It must be hard to be on a gluten free diet without bread. George Burns lived to be 100 eating a bowl of soup with a piece of bread everyday for lunch.

Let’s not forget that he also smoked cigars everyday too. Not expensive cigars either. Not advocating smoking but I am just saying how life truly can be a crap shoot!

I heard a scientist being interviewed once that said certainly not everyone who smokes will die of cancer. Some most definitely will. Others won’t. It’s Russian roulette.

Pam,

I love the flavor of maple syrup in sweet potatoes. Adds flavor and a touch of sweetness but not overly sweet like the ‘candied sweet potato’ recipes that have so much brown sugar that you don’t even taste the sweet potatoes that are naturally sweet. The trick is to bake them long enough and that brings out their natural sweetness.

Sounds great, Captain!

So are beer makers as snobby as wine connoisseurs? Interesting...

I like a fine wine and a good beer but not a snob about it.

Earlybird, I am an "old hippie" style mom, used to make my daughters baby food a lot. She loved pureed sweet potatoes. Have you tried them for Mom? add a bit of maple syrup.. sort of like mashed potatoes. I myself could not stomach pureed fish either.. what the heck!

it is official tasting time for my latest beer batch . its the one containing some molasses and the tbsp of everclear in each . i tried one a week ago , knew it was a bit green but determined it would be a good one for serving ice cold .

id did what id hoped -- the molasses resolved the ' sour ' that ive been battling . i have bitter sweet instead . great .
up till now the fermentation restart ( in the bottles ) that creates carbonation has eaten up every speck of sugar , resulting in decent beers but a little sour .

im trying to find my own way without resorting to reading a lot . beer makers ( snobs ) online are just such a drag , taking something simple and trying to get scientific with it -- annoying as hell .
i like this beer . has a great ' dark style ' aftertaste .

I would like to thank the person who posted he/she ate crackers and cheese most days because of limited time. Well for about a week, or so I have more limited time cooking. I am busy making pureed foods and honey consistency drinks for my mom. She was recently diagnosed with dysphagia, a delay in swallowing. What a mess and cleanup. Foods come out too thick like paste and patience is not one of my best qualities, it reminds me of pie crust when I first began making crust. I used to throw it across the room in the sink, but I have lots of patience with my mom. I am a pretty good cook, but not with pureed foods. it is gross looking too. and I expect my mom to eat it, oh no. I am a little new at cooking these types of food so looking up everything, meeting with speech therapy, and trying to make it pleasant for my mom. She does not like most of the pureed food I am cooking, but I keep on going until I perfect this task. I have been feasting on cottage cheese and triscuits for about five days now. I lost a surprising 5 lbs. or more. The crackers and cheese filled me up all day, amazing! Thanks you for your post. I am no longer eating just crackers and cheese, and I now have a more positive outlook toward weight loss.. I am now eating mainly healthy meals. I have more energy. off sugar foods. I make homemade pumpkin soup and a healthy smoothie today. I am back to eating nutritional meals as previous. One more thing. I took my mother out to dinner on the holiday to look at the foliage, and I called this wonderful resort my family, and I stay at a few times per year. I asked if the chef could kindly make a pureed dinner for my mother. They were more than happy to do it. The dinner cost $17.00 and when it arrived my mother tasted it and said it was awful. I brought it home and added a few spices, lemon for the fish, salt and pepper. She ate the whole meal and said it was good. If she would not eat it, I would have, costing $17 and I do not like wasting food. Too precious, too many people in the world starving. Well, have a good day/night everyone. Bon Appetit!

My family has always called meals breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unless it is on a Sunday, a huge fancy meal can be called Sunday Brunch.

Other areas call meal times by a different name.
"What are the 3 meals a day called?
Technically, the word “supper” refers to a light evening meal, and “dinner” is a more formal, hearty meal. In colonial days, farmers were too busy to eat three meals a day, so they only had breakfast and dinner. The wealthy had three meals a day: breakfast, dinner, and supper.

What meal are you having today?

I missed breakfast....

Good question! I'm frustrated because I cook great meals for my mother every night but she justs picks at the food i have prepared and comments she doesn't like it. She has dementia...I'm wondering what others do in this case. She only likes desert. I fixed salmon, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, and a nutritious salad. I do these kinds of dinners nightly but to no avail. So frustrated! I feel like just sercing her desert every night and throw in a protein shake. Your recipes sound delicious. Thanks for sharing!

Because I can not resist a deal I came home with an 8 lb pork shoulder at only $1/lb. My original plan was to cook up the whole thing into pulled pork but now I'm reconsidering, what am I going to do with so much meat all at once? Maybe I'd better haul out my butcher knife and freeze half.

Pasa, I love broccoli soup. Can’t do the liver though. My daddy loved it. My mother tricked me into eating it as a kid. I thought it was steak.

I wanted everything daddy had as a child. I was a ‘daddy’s girl.’ Mom told me he was eating steak. I hated the texture of the liver and didn’t forgive her for a long time! It does smell good cooking with the onions though.

I actually cook all kinds of soups. So yummy!
