Sorry to say, but this site has been so depressing for a few days. I thought I'd ask an average, everyday question....to make us all feel a little more normal today.
I made Eggplant Lasagna, and my BIL and SIL are coming for dinner. They leave for Cali tomorrow to see their beautiful grand daughter.
Sorry, sometimes we just need some REGULAR conversation.......or at least THIS caregiver does.
I had beans and roasted potatoes and red onions, and some of yesterdays pudding.
Plenty of chicken for sandwiches for lunch, yea!
Not that I eat that way now.
Black beans, Greek Salad with Kalamata olives, Roasted red pepper hummus with rice crackers.(for me)
Prickly pear, ginger, hibiscus lemonade, sweetened with raw honey.
Normal? What’s that? Hahaha, didn’t know there was such a thing. Sorry, being sarcastic.
Hope you caught your breath for a moment and feeling there is normalcy again.
True. A matter of taste and taste does change periodically.
What people eat in other parts of the world we would see as totally gross and they most likely see our food as strange.
Too funny about your aunt!
You reminded me of my friend’s son.
This kid was always a ‘go getter’ and was determined to get ahead in life. Nothing stopped this kid from making a quick buck! He took every dare his friends threw at him and was fearless in every situation. I loved this kid’s spirit.
Well, my friend dearly loved her son as he was growing up and appreciated his ambitious attitude but told him that he needed to be careful accepting every dare that came along to get an extra buck or two. That advice from his mom went in one ear and out the other with her son.
One day his friends approached him with $10! The dare this time was to eat an entire can of cat food. He told his friends, “No problem! Sure, I can do that and make an easy 10 bucks.” So he proceeded to eat the cat food. No big deal for him being the cocky teenager that he was.
Later that night he gets sick. Normally, not a huge issue for him but he got scared and knowing that his mom is a nurse he feels comfortable speaking with her about a medical situation.
He tells his mom, “Uh, mom I think something is wrong. I am sick and don’t feel well at all.”
She was never surprised with her son but could tell he was scared this time. She asked him what was wrong. He says, “Diarrhea with lots of blood.” Then he told her about the dare to eat cat food. My friend had to explain that there are tiny bones in cat food that is meant to be consumed by cats and not humans.
He finally stopped accepting every dare that came along! The last one wasn’t worth the ten bucks because he was miserable!
I know a guy who accidentally ate dog food that was placed in the fridge thinking it was leftovers that his wife cooked. This guy actually told his wife that he liked it and she didn’t have the heart to tell him that he ate dog food so she just said thank you to him. Hahaha.
Potlucks are fun because you can sample everyone’s cooking.
Progressive idea sounds great too.
Have you ever asked for a recipe and the person refused? Has happened to me. I asked a woman I volunteered with at my daughter’s school if she would give me her Bulgogi recipe and she told me she would not give it to me ‘for free.’ She was from Korea and cooked it and I wanted an authentic Korean recipe but apparently she didn’t give recipes out.
Also, my husband’s grandma would leave out an ingredient so no one could make it as good as she did! Hahaha
Always wondered how they were. I agree, there is a certain niche market for that service.
Ooooooh, personal chef on occasion would be fantastic!
Glad, I agree about the price situation. Paying for that convenience but as isthisreallyreal says, cheaper than a restaurant.
I think they are better than going to a restaurant all the time and they really do give people an opportunity to try different things without having a bunch of fresh marjoram (or????) left over with no idea what to do with it.
I don't think I would use them, but I think they fill a need.
I might use a personal chef if ever I couldn't cook. Or just wanted to feel pampered. 😁
I don’t prep ahead and don’t do much cooking ahead of time. I usually am home from work by 2:00 and decide what I’m going to cook then. I’m by myself and it’s something to do. I also have a monthly church women’s group potluck that I always make something special. And, I belong to a singles progressive dinner group that meets monthly. Lots of fun and a chance to taste many different cooks.
Anyway, I don’t consider it hard to prep ourselves and we get to select the ingredients and the amount of money that we spend.
My question is what does everyone think of all the ‘prepped meals’ such as Blue Apron and a bazillion others? Doesn’t it seem like a racket to make money? What are the portion sizes? Etc. I am not a big eater, nor is my husband but just wondering. My husband often eats a later lunch at work if he gets busy so he’s not terribly hungry later.
I read an article saying a person spends quite a bit more for that service, plus no leftovers! Has anyone tried these services and do you like them? If leftovers are wasted in your home I get spending for the convenience. I don’t mind leftovers.
No doubt people seem to enjoy delivery without having to shop in the neighborhood stores. I feel badly for the local businesses that are struggling to stay in business. For the most part I like seeing what I buy so I mainly shop locally.
I love to cook in larger batches sometimes and freeze in small portions to eat later.
Years ago I had major surgery and I knew I would not be able to cook afterwards. I stuffed six weeks of food in my freezer that my husband could just defrost and heat for us to have while I was recovering. We were young. I was only in my 30’s and I didn’t want to spend all that extra money on restaurants. Still wanted to eat healthy so freezing was a good option.
My husband does cook some too. He makes phenomenal weekend breakfast and does a great job grilling.
When I travel I always fill the freezer with homemade frozen dinners so my dear hubby can get proper nutrition while flying solo.
Makes it nice for busy days for me as well.
I even got my 75 year old friend to start preparing some healthy frozen dinners for herself.
It isn't much fun to eat alone after preparing all the food, but is not so bad heating up a frozen meal.
Okay, we do have amazon prime. I have only used it once for something I couldn’t find locally. My husband tends to use it more. He isn’t a ‘big shopper’ in stores.
I am the opposite. I like to see in person what I am purchasing unless it is something I have purchased before and familiar with.
I have a ‘Whole Foods’ near me. So not a big deal to go there.
Thanks for reply.
Gershun- no need for shame. It is understandable not really wanting to cook for one. But you should pamper yourself one day and just cook yourself your favorite meal, just for you, all the things you like.
if your garlic bread is homemade id suggest a handful of black olives in the dough .
Pecan cream cheese crumble. For them
Salad, black beans cheese and olive enchilada, lemon yogurt for me.
i usedta muse that someday , laying stone high up on a chimney on a hot day , a drone was gonna " beer me " .
