we have given care . now we are in realization that we are next . i think we have learned that self determination is paramount . im involved with the VA who arrogantly feel that they know best re ; old age needs . i , in a sportsmanlike manner , wish those affirmative action azzholes the best . they dont know sh*t from shinola down here in hilljack land . theyve already nixed my firearms . fair enough . watch out for the folding box knife in the pocket and the diabolical little shiv in the boot top . when i leave this hill , may as well bring a skate conveyor cause were all going down at the same time .

yes im full of crap . its all ive got . :P

mothers frugality.
ive been making beer . got a cool little nook for doing so . ive been looking at a sign for months that says " beer , its not just for breakfast anymore " .
couldnt justify the 18 bucks . one week ago i found something similar at a martinsville junk shop that said " keep calm and drink beer " .
9 bucks . one week later it adorns my wall . nothing wrong with being a holdout .

you folks might know that my son was murdered 3 years ago . the investigation is long and yet resolved but its going to happen . my county doesnt play around with speculation , bluff , and chance . when the case is properly prepared there will be no need for bargaining . straight to the jury and possibly capital charges for ' lying in wait ' . indiana is one of 4 states with that provision and you dont want to try morgan county -- this aint bloomington ( liberal sh*thole ) .

cwillie,
ive started a new job where im being enthusiastically accepted . foremost in my mind is being modest about my capabilities in relation to their needs . in the face of all of your compliments its frankly just hard to be humble .

"For those of you who don't know the Captain was a racist, misogynistic, homophobic bigot who frequently went on maniacally inappropriate writing sprees - but other than that he was highly entertaining and had a heart of gold "

you overlooked " sexist " ..

And he cared for first his mother and then his aunt until the end of their lives, with great dedication and unique style. Actions speak louder than words in the Captain's case, I think.

Though goodness he did enjoy provoking reactions, did he not!

I still think of his mother's words whenever I decide against a purchase: "they can keep it. I ain't a-payin' it."

Good old Captain...........he did have a way with words.

I used to read his posts out loud to my hubs. He even asks me "heard from the Captain lately?"

Interesting reading....
I recommend clicking on "Oldest First" and read what WAS for dinner way back when.
Funny too....very funny.

meanwhile back on planet bunker the renter gave me a quart of greek yogurt. it tasted like soured mop water till i hit it with my sweetened rice, added a little xtra sugar and dam, the rice came to life..

Baked spicy chicken wings, fried tators and onions, lima beans. I also made a Black Cherry Jello Pie for desert.

Tonight I made fried potatoes and onions and cut up a polish sausage in it, cooked in my big old cast iron skillet. Nothing gets the taters just a little crispy like the cast iron. And had sauerkraut as a side. Very yummy!

HomeaIways, hardly ever use my crockpot but pulled pork is fantastic in it.

Occasionally I make soup in the slow cooker. Usually not though, usually make soup on the stove. I love cooking and eating soup.

I remember a George Burns interview where he said that he ate a bowl of soup every single day for lunch and he lived to be 100! He also smoked cigars everyday, cheap cigars at that, even though he could afford expensive ones.

Pizza, at the request of my youngest child. Almost went out and got Taco Bell because after 2 HOURS I was tired of waiting on hubby & the kids to get back with the pizzas. Hubby didn’t call in the order, he just went down to pizza place A and ordered to-go. After waiting almost 90 minutes, he got his money back and went to pizza place B which is new & we’d never been there before. They had our pizzas out within 15 minutes and it was GOOD.

I love my pressure cookers. I have two in different sizes. I use them for dry beans, meats, and vegetables. Great to use after work to get a good dinner ready in a hurry.

I have a stove top pressure cooker and a slow cooker and I use both of them occasionally but I've never understood the hype about either device, I think it all depends on your cooking style and your family. I can understand the appeal for working moms who want to get dinner on the table as quickly as possible or to save heating up the kitchen in the summer; both are very good at soups, stews, chili etc and pulled meats.

Tiger55..I have an electric pressure cooker, not brand name Insta Pot. I love it. I have been using a pressure cooker for almost 30 years and I loved my stove top one now the electric is real nice. Can use it as a slow cooker, pressure cooker and it sears as well. If you find one on sale grab it. As with any pressure cooker get the largest one you can afford. You can make a little in a large pot but you can't make a lot in a little one!

NHWM, I use the pie crust recipe on the Crisco can. I’ve also used an old family recipe with butter. The Crisco one always works. I like to bake pies. Apple does smell the best.

Agree with 'regular conversation' idea. (It's always easy to talk about food, isn't it?) I used to be a great cook, everything from scratch. Now the kids cook for themselves. I still make fresh veggies daily, fresh squeezed lemonade, & tobouli, but kids cook all the meats. Do you guys have an instapot? Llama said they're nice to have. All I really use is my rice cooker & the microwave!

UsedupDIL,

I just want to go into your kitchen to smell the delicious aroma of your pies. Does anything smell better than apple pie baking? It’s the best.

I don’t know how to make a homemade crust. Do you do the whole thing from scratch?
