Since Tim Horton's sold out and got into competition with McDonald's for the coffee/lunch market their selection of donuts has dwindled, and since pretty much every other donut shop has gone out of business there's nowhere to get the favourites I used to enjoy. I still like Timmie's donuts, but where are the dutchies, the jelly ones with icing, all those crullers they used to make?

At least the vandekamps donuts, chocolate and powdered sugar were cut in half, shared on a plate.

Thanks for this, you're right. I made some delicious lentil soup out of some stock in the freezer I'd made from a roast chicken. Such good flavor yet so simple.

Apple fritter last night.

A homeless lady was sitting in the donut shop. They feed her, and she refuses money. She is on my radar.

Lu, there was a period when I first moved out as a young person and I only had a microwave and a hot plate. I learned to cook so many things in the microwave, even cake. It was an experience. But there is nothing quite like an oven.
We even before my parents came to live with us and were living a simpler life. would cook in our fireplace. Now that was a fun experience. If it was summer we always cooked outdoors, in a fire pit. Good times!!!

cwillie...Iv'e got a crockpot,a microwave and I can cook on top the stove, but I don't have a little toaster oven like you, just a toaster and I really miss my oven because I like to cook things like meatloaves and cookies and even just baked potatoes, but there's been no way since the heating element went out.Thankfully though, a man is coming to fix my oven and dishwasher this Thursday,so I'll be back in business.

OK I gotta ask, if you're going to go to the trouble to make something 90% vegan why spoil it with the Campbell's soup?
(sounds yummy though)

I'm making my vegetarian broccoli-cheese casserole. I gently steam fresh broccoli and drain, take a can of Campbell's cream of cheese soup and make it with soy milk and shredded Daiya cheddar "cheese," prepare some MorningStar Farms Chick'n strips and cut them into little chunks. Mix together, dump into a casserole, toss a few Ritz cracker crumbs on top, bake for 15 minutes. Serve with a salad or a yellow/ orange vegetable. Yum!

With such delicious items posted here I am embarrassed to say I am having cereal and toast tonight. Husband is out of town for a few days so I can be lazy and pretend to be a kid for a night.

I was looking for a way to use a can of creamed corn that has been lurking in my pantry far too long and found a recipe on allrecipes.com. for "mexican style cornbread" that called for one 8 ounce can of creamed corn. As I was adding ingredients I realized it would be far too wet if I added the recommended 1 cup of buttermilk - it's a good thing I'm not one of those people who blindly follows a recipe even when it looks off because when I checked later I saw that my 398 ml can of corn was way bigger than 8 US ounces.
(and don't ask me why there are 398 mls instead of 400, I always assumed it's because the cans are made in the USA but google tells me that this size equals 13.45 US ounces so that wouldn't make sense either😕❔)

And yes, the cornbread (sans buttermilk) is pretty good😄

Wait up! I just read you might have had won a free donut 5 hours ago?

Way too many carbs, but that is okay, this is Saturday, and I am not the donut police, lol.

However, now that everyone brought up donuts, I will need one.
Is there a craving schedule in the universe or something?
I have wanted a donut, my own craving, for about 4 days now, and have resisted.
Maybe there is a rash of advertisements coming on in our sleep?

Maybe just a few donut holes will do.

That sounds good, but I'm out of potatoes. And canned chili.

I guess I'll start with a bowl of cereal... honey bunches of oats.

And an orange. I've got some clementines that have been in the fridge since christmas.

cwillie - do you like baked potato with butter or sour cream? I usually pop a couple of potatoes in the microwave and 'bake' them for 3 minutes, then turn over and 'bake' for another 2-3 minutes. If you have a hot dog or sausage, cut one up in pieces and cook it in the microwave for a few minutes. Mixed the hot dog/sausage in with the potatoes. Enjoy with sour cream or plain yogurt if you want a healthier option No dirty pots or pans.

Any ideas? (LOL)

DH had Venison Sweetish meatballs and rice, I had my usual black beans and salad, Mom is still trying to eat up her meatloaf from Fat Bellys.
I had made some pecan brittle, which is the treat of the day for them. I have done well, staying away from it. Yay! Because it is so addicting once you start.
I have been thinking of trying some walnut brittle, I wonder how that would be. My DH loves the walnut pie, so I might give it a go.

Today I felt like making something that my dad would have made me.

I sautee some pork cutlet strips with onions, mushrooms in a E.V.O.O, butter, white wine, garlic, fresh parsley, season salt, and made Angel hair pasta and tossed it with the pork and sause. Then I threw in fresh cherry tomatoes cut in half. I guess, I just needed to remember my dad today!
