Polarbear- that is even the case with gum. I was chewing some gum and thought this tastes weird. Read the ingredients, it was aspartame I was tasting. The only gum I have found with no aspartame is winterfresh flavor, not a big fan. But what is the deal with all the aspartame?
Anyway, maybe its the case with the candies you tried as well.

Tried a few pieces of chocolates the kids brought home from trick or treating: snicker, reeses, kit-kat, almond joy. They all tasted off. Not sure if my taste buds have changed, or the candies were old, or the quality/taste just got worse from what I remember. Only took a bite of each and threw away the rest.

I wouldn't be surprised if the better ingredients have been switched out for something less expensive.

Low carb has gone out the window since I am awash in sandwiches (although I did freeze most of them), cakes and assorted yummy squares. I figure the faster I eat up all the sweet treats the sooner I can get back to a healthier diet, but I suspect there is a flaw in that plan🤔

Perfect CWillie! Just perfect!
I will get some cheap cooking wine to tenderize and add flavor.

Yep, there was NO FAT on it!

Thank you!

Cut the roast into bite sized pieces and put it and the gravy right in the used roaster and pop it in the fridge. Tomorrow add in a good amount of tomato sauce (some wine or beer would be helpful too) and whatever spices you prefer and then slow cook it even longer, either in the oven or on the stove top (watch it doesn't stick). Near mealtime add back the veggies you didn't finish, or toss in some new ones, or both... this should make a tasty stew, or if you add more water or beef broth a hearty soup.

BTW, a good pot roast must be made with a lovely fatty piece of meat, modern lean roasts will never be as tender or flavourful and are best served rare to medium rare.

I knew that I should not have cooked that beef roast in the oven-roaster pan.
It was tough, the pan may take days to clean up, and the kitchen.....
Potatoes, carrots, onions, celery.......tasting mediocre. It has been awhile, so I had to borrow a cup of flour to make the gravy.

It was so bad, dH and I were laughing. Then, there is the leftovers. I could puree it for soup?

Now, there is a bee trying to get into the kitchen through the screen door.

Does this mean I should stop trying to cook?

The upside? Leftovers for three more meals. Or downside, because I hate leftovers.

That sounds so good, Johnjoe. And nutritious.

...

I'm having peas for breakfast. It's the only thing in the refrigerator besides condiments. I need to do a big grocery shopping trip to stock up at new place but I haven't done it yet. I've been living off of take out, delivery, fast food, and of course work food on days I am there.

The sight of a completely empty frig and freezer after 3 weeks is a very sad sight, though. lol I'll know I'm over the hump of having a new place when I'm cooking and eating out of my own kitchen again.

Bacon & cabbage with a white sauce consisting of lots of boiled milk, onion and garlic and a good soup spoon of cornflower to thicken and potatoes. So many choose to strain the cabbage water down the sink when it is cooked but I save it to drink when cooled also for making soup or sauces next day. All of the Iron is contained in the cabbage water.

Of course zucchini bread is a vegetable - and so is pumpkin pie!

Send, have you been getting ideas from the nursing home menu?

Love them both and all the cruciferous veggies thankfully - cheap and nutritious. I made a cauliflower soup the other day and will probably have some of that for supper with turkey breast.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! How thankful we all are for each other.

I must confess, I've been buying some of the fixings for "Turkey Day" already. I can't wait for the bird, dressing, cranberries, green bean casserole and pie. (Diet be darned that day!)

OK, only a month and a half (Nov. 22) to wait........sigh.

Tonight before I went to the NH I set the timer on my little counter top oven for 2 hours to roast some fall vegetables and a turkey leg. When I got home I opened cans of cranberries and gravy for my Canadian thanksgiving feast for one. I've got pumpkin dump cake for dessert.

Ez 4:9 references making bread from wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; I've enjoyed the bread when served it at other's homes but it's a little too pricey for me to buy for myself.

"Sprouted grain" bread, right Smeshque? My ex liked those products. I confess I don't know the difference between average (run of the mill, wink wink) bread and sprouted grain bread... except the obvious. But I don't know why the sprouted is supposed to be more nutritious or better for you.

I have learned that fewer preservatives and fewer chemicals in bread in general are more tolerable for those with celiac, like my ex.
