It's corn season here in MD, and we know all the local farmers.. LOL Hubs did 90 ears of corn, off the cobb, creamed and frozen.. 25 2 cup bags! we are set for the year! Gave some to DD and are taking FIL some bags. DD sent us a Plated food box, we picked the meals and they arrived yesterday. I have to say we would not have paid the $$ for the box... Liked Home Chef a lot, but this is mostly Kale.. and very small fish portions. And now the neighbor sent home barbequed brisket, slaw and rolls.. so I am swimming in stuff! Eating good in our neighborhood!!

If anyone has Trader Joe's near them they make good somewhat healthy veggie, Turkey and assorted seafood burgers
They are very easy to heat up and taste good with not a lot of effort
They price out better than buying freshly made ones with a lot less effort if one doesn't have the effort.

I ate baked beans right out of the can last night followed by a coffee crisp for dessert. I thought that was pretty pathetic until I read what everyone else was eating!

I had a really healthy dinner. Started off with five popsicles. Then a blueberry scone. Followed by two smallish bowls of Smart Food popcorn. Don't let the name fool ya. It's popcorn covered in cheese. Then a smallish bowl of M &M's. Oh, I did throw in something healthy............a bowl of yogurt mixed with applesauce.
Yes, a healthy dinner indeed! :)

Did I mention that I have been eating really healthy lately and working out regularly for the last two weeks? I guess I was due a food binge. I was...........right? Please say yes Gershun, you deserved a food binge (even if you don't mean it)

I nuked mine till they were barely warmed up and had a slight flavour of fresh peas. They are a regular on my menu!

The peas are hitting the spot tonight since I wanted something very simple. Back when I was looking for high-protein foods, you posted a list of foods high in protein, Golden, and peas was one of my main takeaways from that list. :-)

I had a couple tablespoons of honey for dessert, that was nice.

Hubby's night off from cooking last night. So I made Thai chicken with noodles and veges. Fortunately I had everything but the fish sauce on hand.
It was good but 15+ ingredients makes prep time a nightmare, even though it cooks quickly in the wok. The kitchen was a disaster.

At our house the rule is whoever cooks, cleans up too 😝 so I got KP duty too.

I then sat my rump down and didn't move til bedtime.

The posted menu at the NH tonight is a choice of roast beef or turkey casserole. The menu at my house tonight is supposed to be a salad I made a few days ago but didn't eat, unless it has gone all brown.

Fresh gazpacho muenster cheese and crackers. So fresh tasting, easy and cold, nothing better on a hot day. And oh so good for me!

New blender came Friday, gazpacho made, mmmmmm!

CM and CW, I'm of the old school that a bone in the broth makes the broth better. And now there's some kinda' weird "bone broth" diet touting the benefits of bones.

So now there's a REASON to get the ham hocks for the soup. Plus I like the marrow inside but I'll agree, it's a mess to take off the petty amount of meat. However the meat has better flavor than any ham steak could ever hope for. The darned things are sky high in price so I usually don't get them anymore but now I can justify the cost for the sake of my "intestinal health". A few drops of liquid smoke makes up for the lack of flavor of the ham steak, IMO.

You need the the inedible extras to get what Raymond Blanc calls the "onctueux"-ness of the thing. Chocolate manufacturers and food chemists will tell you all about mouth-feel. I have to say in general I'm with you, though, CW - dam'ed if I'm spending hours faffing about with shin of beef and roasted bones when there's nothing much wrong with an Oxo cube.

Not that I can remember when I last needed an Oxo cube, either.

I haven't bought pork or ham hocks in years, why would I spend $$ on a cut of meat that is mostly fat, skin and bone when I could just buy a leaner, cheaper piece of pork or ham and get the same flavour?

I love ham hocks with fresh green beans and potatoes! I get them at the Amish market, and while they are pricey they have lots of meat on them, and great flavor. Now I want some!!

CWIllie, I agree about too much good stuff available. Besides vegetables and blueberries we have lobster, quahog clams, and crabs. Lobster was $1.99 a lb today. Cheaper than anything else. I saw early apples advertised at an orchard about 30 miles away. I wait for the University farms to have theirs. Always good quality and close by. I make applesauce and apple butter. Also can slices for winter pies.
