Just about, Sue
Do I need a passport to cross the border ?

The best mole up here was near mariachi plaza but I hear it closed
La Serranata

I'm at the mall to escape the heat and am at a yakitori / sushi place with a happy hour - not bad for the price

Hey MsMadge,
Yup, there's a great mole place called La Casa del Mole, downtown Tijuana in the neighborhood called Zona Rio.
We've eaten there many times and is my husband's "go-to" place for mole. (Although we make it at home too.)

They have any type of mole you could want, Pipian, Almendrado, verde, etc.

There is parking for a few cars out front but there's a free lot across the street.

Inside, there's a large rock fountain in the middle of the restaurant with seating around it in 2 isles, divided by a half wall. There is a pianist the whole time the restaurant is open. There are tables for 4 but they can put more together.

The food is good. Hubs always gets Breast of Chicken (pechuga de pollo) in Mole Almendrado. The pechuga is huge! He always orders an extra side of mole. Don't bother with the "soup" they bring before the meal-only chicken broth with rice and onions. I always get Chamorro (a pork shank in adobo sauce), yummy.

Prices are reasonable (in comparison to what we'd pay in San Diego).

Wait staff can be overwhelmed when the place is full but always have been attentive.

I'd suggest having lunch (menu is the same for dinner), as the food is the same and in good quantity.

Have I convinced you to come over? 😋

Sorry for your mess Send. That's why I gave away my waffle maker. They never came out like the ones at the hotels that serve a partial breakfast. (Those always come out perfect.)

I tried different brands of pancake/waffle mix and Bisquick but no go. I blame it on the waffle iron (even though it was new).

IMO, the frozen Belgian (deep) waffles are better than the thin ones (more butter and syrup to hide in the grooves- hee hee. ) $2.00 for 6 on sale. Now, they even have cinnamon and spice flavor too. I feel a carb attack coming on.......time for a cookie! ;)

Cwillie...Your'e salad does sound yummy~It is a perk to only cook for 1, yourself sometimes. You can create and make and eat whatever you feel like, only have to think of your own tastebuds and no one complaining about what's served.

I made a big salad with lots of veggies, croutons, sunflower seeds and dried cranberries and poppy seed dressing. Yum.
Dessert was strawberries with real whipped cream. Double yum.
(but after reading the previous posts I'm kinda wishing I had a waffle to put under those berries and cream)

Send - biological laundry detergent. Mix up some with a couple of tablespoonfuls of water, apply, leave until you can be bothered to come back to it. It'll see off anything edible like nobody's business.

Peg Bracken reckoned the best way to clean a waffle iron was to have pancakes instead.

Do NOT try this at home. I think I cooked for the last time tonight. Trader Joes Coconut Pancake Mix in the waffle maker. That was really a hot mess, will be stuck on there, uncooked, forever! Thinking of throwing the waffle maker out, used two years ago.

Sue,
I have a waffle-maker, so we might have fresh made tonight. Thanks for the idea! I once heard that if home-made, there are much fewer calories and carbs, especially if you add blueberries, an antioxidant, and so healthy for you!
Where is that? Where'd I put it?

Pffff, (sigh)
Hubby is on a diet which means WE are on a diet. Tonight was a tasty combination of ground sirloin, onions, green and yellow bell peppers and portobello mushrooms. Great! But NO carbs......no rice, potatoes, noodles, bread (I'd even take a tortilla), nada. I'm a witch without carbs. No wine with dinner, no desert. :(

Hubs has a meeting tonight so I snuck 2 frozen waffles! I feel so guilty but... oh well. My carb "fix" is satisfied. He'll never know.

As you can imagine, I didn't do well on the Atkins diet.

My dinner wasn’t particularly exciting, but not allowed to eat after 7:00. PJ brought a pizza for us for dinner. Probably won’t eat again until Saturday sometime. My private duty nurse got here at 6:00. She was finishing up another assignment. Lucked out and got the same two nurses - makes me feel better. They’re so nice and very helpful. They’ve got me all prepped and ready to go. Have one more round of meds and then wake up tomorrow afternoon sometime.

This recipe from Serious Eats sounds dynamite;
YIELD: Serves 6 to 8
TOTAL TIME: 30 minutes
RATED: 4-1/2 stars

Ingredients
2 (15 ounce) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
3 ears fresh cooked corn, kernels cut off the cob (about 2 cups)
2 red bell peppers, diced (about 2 cups)
2 medium cloves garlic, minced (about 2 teaspoons)
2 tablespoons minced shallots, from one medium shallot
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon zest and 6 tablespoons juice from 5 to 6 limes
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves, plus more for garnish
2 Hass avocados, chopped

Directions
Combine all ingredients except for avocados in a large bowl and mix well. Cover and chill at least 30 minutes and up to over night. Right before serving, add avocados and fold gently, being careful not to mash avocados. Garnish with more chopped cilantro if desired. Serve at room temperature.

YUM!

Send,
Darn, I've got to watch my cholesterol. Not saying' you have to do this but I get the Turkey sausage patty in my sausage McMuffin. Way less fat grams and I can't tell the difference in flavor. I'm sure they'd do an egg white only also (the yolk has 200 mg. cholesterol per egg!) I get mine eggless. Just sayin'.

Glad you're home Becky enjoying such a spectacular meal. How nice for a bit of solitude to recover.

MsMadge,
Spinach enchiladas? Cheese too? What sauce do they use to cover them? Can't even imagine (?????)

Smesque, Your corn and black bean salad sounds good. I’ll have to try that. My stepson called me earlier to see if I wanted Mexican from his restaurant. Of course, I said yes. Ordered cheese enchiladas and beef and bean tostadas.

Cheese enchiladas
Made a black bean and corn salad, the first time I have tried it. Added some onions and tomatoes, some cilantro and a little lemon juice, was very good. I thought corn and beans cold sounds gross, but was good, anywho.

Made it home this morning. Still a good bit of rehab and conditioning to do. Warm here today. We had cold lobster salad for dinner, with croissants and carrot cake. PJ hit the local bakery early this morning. Just me and PJ at home. My brother has gone to TX for a music festival. My son and kids went to Acadia to camp out for a week. Very quiet.

I’m going home tomorrow, hopefully. I think I’ve worn out my welcome. I am not a good patient. I dislike this place intensely. They need a visit from the Viking. They are much too experienced for me. I did shove away the guy trying to draw my blood. I had already had blood work done. I told him to stay away from me until he checked my chart. He never reappeared. My nurse checked my chart and couldn’t find a new order. This visit has convinced me that I will never be a compliant patient. I’ll have family members posting on Aging Care about a b—— I am. With any kind of luck I’ll be posting about a nice dinner, not the hospital stuff. It’s stuffy in here. Humid and hot for northern Maine - mid 80’s yesterday. Plus someone has been putting off fireworks - yikes!

Hubs was late for work, they called him, no breakfast for me, as off we went in a hurry.

Much later, when I was more awake, sausage egg muffin at guess-where.

Dinner is also going to be late, but Mexican food sounds great!
