Bone marrow is delicious but it's definitely an off-putting texture for a lot of people. I love it spooned out on bread...it's like gelatinous butter only with more kick.

I do find it amazing to see a lot of survivalist food end up on high-price-tag menus. Not sure how I feel about handing someone $70 for something I could get from my butcher for almost nothing and make on my BBQ! The cost must be the 11 secret marrow herbs and spices! ;)

I've seen marrow served in restaurants like you said, Polar -- bone split in half lengthwise and roasted/toasted/broiled then eaten along with... bread, or salad greens, or whatever else you want to put with it.  My ex used to order it when it was available.  It's served as an appetizer dish. It's probably really healthy for you so if you can find a way to make it tasty and appealing, I'd say eat it up. I also don't plan on eating any myself, haha.

I wouldn't say "usually", but what I last did with bone marrow was spit it out in panic in the middle of a five star dining room on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.

I'd thought it was a cute mini heart-shaped coeur à la crème garnishing my filet mignon and tucked in happily. I was not expecting a forkful of what I can only describe as greasy snot.

(It might be much nicer properly toasted. Not aiming to find out, though).

I agree with the OP. This forum has been awful the last few days just like it was 4 years ago. I can't respond to some of the posts because the problems are so bad. Makes me feel depressed just reading them.

So, I'm making dinner right now. A big pot of beef soup in the pressure cooker, with all the different vegetables I have in the fridge.

The beef came with the bones and bone marrow. I remove the marrow because it is too much fat. The new food trend at restaurants around here is to cut the bones in half exposing the marrow and roast the bone marrow with seasoning then serve with bread. Anyone tried it? What do you usually do with bone marrow?

That meatloaf sounds amazing, let me know how it turned out Pam!

As for me 1st dinner [for dad] was leftover baked rainbow trout, rice, asparagus, and sliced tomato.

2nd dinner when mom gets home is...well who knows but it'll be tasty!

Well I have lost a few lbs, and in a desire to keep this going ( at least until another trip to the Amish market and those dang 1/2 lb doughnuts...) I am making a recipe from the back of a book I just read. The Laura Childs series about the Tea Shoppe.. read them,, they are nice light mysteries. It is Greek Meatloaf. Turkey, spinach and some low fat Feta cheese crumbles. Hope it's good . We are fans of "regular" meatloaf... so this is a big switch up!

Thanks Sue. I just happen to have a lot of banana plants growing in my backyard. I don't have to buy, but it is a pain to wash those huge leaves.

Pbear,
Try wrapping your tamales in banana leaves. Oh gosh, much better flavor than dried corn husks. Central and Southern Mexico is where they are popular.

Up here I've bought the banana leaves frozen. If your local supermarket doesn't carry them, try a Mexican or Asian store.

I've made tamales but my masa always breaks. I'll have to check to see if I got masa for tamales. It makes a difference they tell me.
Even better the next day.

We just visited Mom and are stopping for Japanese food. 😋

A couple of nice pieces of cod sauteed in a little butter. Brussels sprouts for a veggie and some berries for dessert.

I overindulged in dark chocolate truffle cashew ice cream earlier. I won't do that again in a hurry - a little too rich. The aged gut can't handle it. But it was good!!!!

Ms. Madge, I loved that show. Occasionally we still get an old episode on our local PBS.

I have a copy of White Trash Cooking. But, don't really need the cookbook. I grew up in WV and all of my family cooked southern country style.

We're having big dinner this evening. All of the April birthdays. I've been baking all morning.

I have the book!

Clarissa Dickson-Wright (blonde) is still very much with us and hilarious*!!!; but Jennifer Patterson (dark, looks like the wicked witch of the West and whom I absolutely adored for reasons I'll explain) sadly died some years ago.

JP used to be on the radio for years before she teamed up with the other "fat lady". At first I thought "good heavens, is this woman drunk?" but she wasn't, she just had that strained, deliberate Received Pronunciation voice. I fell in love with her when she deftly and gently - almost accidentally - assassinated Delia Smith, just in passing. It was a cookery-themed panel game, the teams had to assemble imaginary dishes from an imaginary (and highly improbable) box of groceries, and on her turn she concluded...

"... and then you can Doo A Deeeelia, and pop the little currants on the top."

* Oh sh*t! I was just checking the spelling and no! - C D-W died in 2014!!! Oh woe!

In my defence, that was peak caregiving stress and quite honestly I'm not sure I'd have noticed if I'd died myself.
