Tamale pie was ok, not great. Called for tomato sauce, next time a salsa and an online recipe with jiffy corn muffin mix. Was more a glorified sloppy Joe flavor with corn. Just mix corn meal with milk then add to meat mixture.

Didn't have room for the red velvet cheese cake I bought. Will take it to work to share.

I've never had tamale pie. Looked at recipes online. Looks good. Hope it turns out well.

There are tamales sold by vendors all around here, Glad, but I don't usually eat them. I suppose I don't get the point -- it's just a wrapped up food.  Does being wrapped up in corn husk make it better somehow? And how does one make a pie of it, if the definition of tamale is to be wrapped up in corn husk...? 🤔 lol I actually DO want to know how your tamale pie turns out.

Send, I went through one bad earthquake in LA area when I was living on 7th floor (so like 12th due to garage levels) of a condo building. Things were swaying all around. I jumped in the bed, pulled up the covers and waited. Of course everything was fine but it was scary for a minute there.

Becky, prime rib with horseradish sauce is a favorite food for me. Sounds heavenly.

I made tilapia fillets tonight, put them in a baking dish with some olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, seasoning. They turned out ok but too runny due to the liquids being too contained. If I make it again, I'd put it on a baking sheet, not in a casserole-type dish, that way give the liquids somewhere to run off to, keep the fish dryer.

So I learned something, which is good.

Tamale pie is in the oven, just an hour and a half. Does not look like the tamale pies online. I don't do olives, it called for sliced green ones, too salty for me. Haven't added salt to anything for years.

We will see. I am sure you all are sitting on the edge of your seats?

Mother did not like the dinner at the Senior Facility. They will make a hamburger , hotdog, grilled cheese, etc if you ask. To keep Mother's and my health up, we decided to go all out for good healthy food and snacks 3 x 7 meals and ? snacks a week. Shopped at 3 markets. Stocked up. Tonight we had Ezeckiel Bread toasted with sprinkled organic first pressed olive oil, leftover rotisserie free range chicken sliced, fresh frozen organic baby asparagus, grapeseed oil vegenaise  + Heinz salt free ketchup = Russian Dressing .  . . ll all stacked and topped with the Russian Dressing . We skip the meals Mom doesn't like and use it to make her favorite foods made with the healthiest ingredients available. We are both taking better care of ourselves and each other and having fun doing so.

Hi Send,

I hope the wind calms down. Good for you on the spring cleaning. You've inspired me, I might have to do a little today. The spaghetti and meatballs sounds wonderful.

It might be a liquid diet after all the BBQ.

Thanks Glad. It was really good food and I'm glad we got a chance to try it. And the cocktails were good too.:-)

Grew up having the best homemade tamale pie. Don't forget the black olives!

Cooking italian meatballs, marinara sauce, and spaghetti.

It was the wind. Not lots of wind, but huge gusts. I had just awakened at 4:30, so I was already awake. (Who's schedule is this anyway?) But I am sure there was an earthquake somewhere, I just haven't been able to pinpoint the time at just after 4:30 a.m. in L. A. .
Went back to spring cleaning. Adding etched glass film to the sliding glass door for privacy allows the light to come in, and the glass won't shatter and fall on anyone (me).

Hi Send,

Hope you are okay. Being nervous is understandable. Keep us posted.

Hi Glad,

I love some guac and chips. Look forward to hearing how the tamale pie turns out.

Loved the Texas BBQ. I had the brisket, pulled worked, beans, coleslaw and cornbread. I knew I had too much when I woke up with the meat sweats. I better have a salad all week to make up for it.

No tamales pie last night. Guacamole and tortilla chips. Must get out to store this morning, after it warms up a bit, to get pie makings. Hmmmm.

LA and Southern California has had: (M1.5 or greater)
14 earthquakes in the past 24 hours
64 earthquakes in the past 7 days
202 earthquakes in the past 30 days
2,696 earthquakes in the past 365 days

I am grateful the faults are releasing pressure a little at a time. But what was that a little while ago just after 4:30 a.m.? Nervous now, should I start moving furniture around, again?

Hi CDN, I have never made tamale pie either. I have a Savoring the Southwest cookbook, that the only thing I have made from it is chili. Figured I should try something else, so tamale pie it is.

Hi Bookluvr,

I hope you were able to find something. Having acid reflux is hard.

Hi Glad,

Chili sounds so good. I've never had a tamale pie, but I will have to look for it.

Still waiting to meet up with friends for the BBQ tonight. See how it goes. The sides sound really good too. Mac and Cheese and beans and cornbread.

I'm not hungry. Dinner tonight was only 3 small pieces of sushi. It's almost 9pm. I think I need to force myself to eat something because I do have acid reflux. I would suffer later on tonight with an empty stomach.

Becky, so glad to hear that you're home and doing well! Hospitals are no place to be sick.

Very happy to have been able to have two of my three kids over for Friday night dinner; matzah ball soup with dill and parsnips; roasted turkey breast, garlic ginger broccoli and brown and wild rice/mushroom/sundried tomato and sausage pilaf.

Sis made dinner. I don't cook so I'm not sure where she went wrong. It was chicken cut into cubes with cabbage and I think yellow noodles. It was cooked dry. And the cabbage wasn't cooked well. The noodles tasted funny. So, I drowned my meat with hot sauce made of vinegar, soy sauce, lots of thinly sliced onions and fresh hot red pepper... I know why she cut the chicken into small cubes. There was not much chicken to cook to begin with. To make it seem plenty, you cut the chicken into small portions so that it looks like a lot of meat. Thank goodness she preferred the noodles. I'm a meat eater - what was in the pot .. wasn't really filling enough for me.

Had a cup of ice cream for dessert. Still have my headache. Maybe a nice cold Fanta Orange will do the trick. =)
