I went to check on Jay at dinner time. He was loading his car to come to our house to use the grill. I said okay. When he unloaded , he had steaks, already seasoned ready to grill, a big green salad with homemade ranch dressing and twice baked potatoes. He cooked everything and it was so good. Now he and the boys are in the kitchen dipping stuff in chocolate. Bananas, frozen green grapes, mandarin orange slices, ritz crackers with peanut butter, pretzels. I never knew grapes dipped in chocolate would be good. He's a good brother and a good cook.

I made like a "Mexican" pizza: a Boboli(TM) pizza crust, smeared with refried beans and a peach salsa (yeah it's awesome on this), sprinkled with onions and green onions and cheddar cheese. Baked for about 10 minutes at 450. Sprinkle on fresh salsa and a mound of thin strips of lettuce. Should be its own food group. Yummy!

8 pieces. I caved in. I was able to eat 4 pieces 20 minutes ago. It's best to finish it since it was freshly made today. That was my reasoning to eat it at 10:30pm. I can't believe I was down to the last 2 pieces and I'm full!

Finish it, Book. It won't improve on keeping.

Though hang on. How many pieces in a "small" container?!

Dinner tonight is leftover salmon from lastnight. Yum! I had thought oldest sis would have finished it. So, I stopped by the grocery store and bought a small container of sushi made of cucumber, crab meat and avocado for my dinner....  We still had the salmon - so I had that for dinner. And 3 pieces of the cut sushi for snack. I'm saving the rest for tomorrow - if I have the will power. It keeps calling me to finish it all.

Aldi is definitely limited with choices, and you won't see the common brands that are in other grocery stores. It was an adjustment to learning what they had and what I liked, but now I find I go to them for things only they have, and I save $100 per month on my groceries-for-one. Can't imagine if I had a family to buy for, it'd be quite a cost difference. But there is an adjustment to their brands and products, to be sure.

I tried Aldi in San Diego but they didn't carry ANY type of non flavored, liquid coffee creamer at all. I'd use any brand, it didn't have to be CoffeeMate.
There was a limited supply of brands, often just one brand. I couldn't complete all my grocery shopping there. It also wasn't in the best part of town.
I had to go back to Von's for the stuff they didn't have. Too bad, they were cheap.

As for dinner, hubs said he was SO full at lunch, (huge hamburger on a french roll with all the trimmings. I had half of an English muffin with a slice of avocado), he didn't want dinner. Ha, yeah right!
I was 'going to' make Thai green chicken curry with veggies and white rice BUT, his highness declared that he was "starving" (really?) right this minute and he threw a frozen pizza in the oven. He's out there right now, grumbling about not knowing how to "cut it".  hahahaha

I had Aldi in Ohio and there are some good prices. We don't have one here. Our grocery selections are a little limited. But we always have cheap lobsters, roasting chickens, broccoli and potatoes. Tonight is chili, salad, vanilla pudding and butter cookies. Made the pudding and cookies for Pam if she's wanting something to eat.

You probably won't like salmon cooked the Norwegian way

Poached in a little vinegar water and served with homemade tartar sauce and boiled red potatoes

Sis prepared salmon for dinner. I love salmon. She just use lemon powder and fresh red peppers. I stared at it trying to see if put some onions in it. Nope. So, the portion I put on my plate, I sprinkled some finely chopped onions and put some black peppers. Crushed one of the red peppers more finely and spread it on top of the salmon. There! Now it's more to my liking. (Sis likes to eat her food as simple as possible.)

I can't sing Aldi's praises enough. Their biggest strength is their prices are amazing. Avocados were on sale for $0.69 or $0.79 today and this is common for them to have specials that are far and away much cheaper than larger groceries. It's a store I always thought of as a "discount store" before I started shopping there about 2 years ago, and it is discount, sort of. You bag your own groceries and there is no deli or butcher, but their quality is very good. I go there for all of my basic groceries now -- canned soups, veggies, freezer meats, eggs, produce, all the basics. And they have some great cheap wines and beer if you like to try new things in that area. The sweet potato chips are sold in big bags in the snack aisle when you first walk in the door. If you're anything like me, don't buy those because you'll eat them all the time.

You can't get better groceries for less money in the U.S. You can get more options if you go to a larger grocery chain. You can get more types of cheese, for example, at a Trader Joe's or other larger grocery, but Aldi's has very good offerings for very cheap.

I like al pastor anything - burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tortas.

I made a fancy salad tonight. I always make salads because they are easy and they agree with me. They had artisan lettuce (that makes me laugh just typing that... it's baby lettuce heads) on sale at Aldi so I bought a couple. Chopped up some artisan lettuce and added sliced button mushrooms (ok, I could've used fancier mushrooms for my fancy salad), green onion, prosciutto pieces and feta. It was good with an Italian style dressing.

I try to get creative with my salads since I eat them so often. It's nice to try different combos, but always have to have protein in them these days. Anyway, it was tasty. I like all the cooking comments, tbh. Who cooked tonight, what did you make??? :-)

Ahh, Sue that sounds Muy Bueno

I'm sitting bedside with the Viking for a bit and have only had a small piece of candy

I might need to hit the gringo taco stand on my way home but they don't have the radishes jalapeño carrots and green salsa like my other place

I've been reading about a New Orleans deli in downtown that I want to try - they serve gumbo but only on Saturdays

MsMadge, I thought of you tonight when we ate at La Chuleta restaurant here in TJ.
Hubby and I each had a taco of carne asada with hand made tortillas, he had one of pastor (pork)
and I had a taco of chilie relleno (which was 2 tacos because the chili couldn't fit in one.)
We shared a large jamica drink. Total bill $7.00 (US)
They were very tast and I'm stuffed.

PJ is a good cook. His first wife left him with 5 teenagers. He had to learn to cook. For 30 years he's had a houseful to cook for, so he's developed a bunch of good dinners. He's pretty good with a crockpot too.

Except if you're Book's sis, then you can't cook a hot dog.  Sorry, Book!  Chili will help, I would think.
