pretsina: For all intents and purposes, it IS an ID bracelet since it is instructing EMS personnel and medical emergent staff the wishes of the individual wearing it on her person (not in a purse or jewelry box).

Imho, the bigger issue is that your mother must wear the bracelet AT ALL TIMES as it's useless being in a purse or jewelry box.

No - you are doing the right, caring thing. The family member who is criticizing you must live on earth two. She needs to wear it if that is what she and the family has decided is best for her. But considering that her cognitive level has declined, and she seems happy wearing it, why in the world would anyone bring her happiness and possibly cooperation down by informing her that a bracelet she likes wearing is a DNR instruction?!!! Who knows, maybe she is aware of its alternative purpose and doesn’t want to discuss it further, but whether she is or not, let her be and enjoy the time she has.

And this is why I was my daddys POA. Also, I have explained to my daughter how to treat me as I may go through the same. It IS an ID bracelet. It identifies what your mom wants done with her life.

Makes perfect sense to me. There are always a family member or two that are totally obnoxious and don't understand the situation. I have one or two and I'm ignoring them. Like it's not hard enough dealing with this without their crap.
