Can you refuse to take your spouse with Alzheimer’s home if it is no longer safe for them to be there

Yes.

“This would be an unsafe discharge.”
“I cannot safely care for her/him at home.”
“S/he is not safe to discharge home.”
“There is no safe caregiver arrangement in place.”
"My spouse is in denial or unaware of their condition and has been uncooperative with any care plan or arrangements."

While at the doctor's office, ask the doctor to refer him to memory care facility or skilled nursing facility.
Tell the doctor that you are unable to care for him at home, he is unsafe, and get the doctor's involvement in helping to place him. But, as everyone else has said, you can't just leave and leave him there at the doctor's office.

My past experience, the doctors don't always know of a suitable care home for the patient. You may have to visit some and choose one, then ask the doctor to make a referral to the facility of your choice.

No, not from a doctor's office. That would be considered abandonment. Talk to the doctor. Tell him its no longer safe to care for your husband at home. Maybe he can help get him placed.

Why don't you just find a care home and have him placed as soon as there is an opening? That's your job not the doctor's office's job.

Yes, find a good memory care or assisted living and do the paperwork and make him a resident. You can drop him off there and refuse to take him home. But for better or for worse this is your responsibility. The facility will help you every step of the way.

Can you speak with your Doctor for advice and explain the situation ? I Knowwith My Mom we had to call 911 and the Hospital advised me to Place her for 24/7 care . I Had to do the same with My Brother . Ask your Doctor for a social worker or therapist .

You can refuse to take them home from a hospital IF THEY ARE ADMITTED and a discharge would be unsafe because the patient is their responsibility. Just leaving them at a doctor's office would be a criminal act called abandonment. The office would have to call the police and report it. Just my thought. Not a good idea. It would be awful to put a doctor in that position, plus you would probably be arrested. Maybe more information would help us answer this question.
