The neighbor drives the same kind of car Dad had, so Dad will say there’s my car. when I say that’s not your car, but one like it, Dad will say yes I know, but I had one like that, Which is true. My sibling tells him that is his car, so no wonder he gets more confused. When someone meets my dad, the first thing my sibling says is ‘he has dementia’. I don’t like that.i’m not saying he does not have memory issues, but it’s like they encourage confusion. Why?Why would someone want to make a parent seem more confused than they are? Dad has good days and bad but when Dad comments on things that are not correct, they post it to everyone. why?
It's not necessary to correct your father on every little thing. It okay to indulge him a bit so long as a delusion is not dangerous or paranoid. Your sibling should not be telling him the neighbor's car is his. That's the wrong response. Consistency matters with dementia. Giving different answers on the same thing will confuse a person whose brain isn't broken. It's a real detriment to the person with a broken brain. Read up on dementia and both you and your sibling can learn how best to deal with your father's condition.
And there's no use in rubbing it in his face or anyone else's either. I mean...what's the point? To only make your dad feel worse than he already probably does?
Tell your sibling to grow up and quit posting things about your dad when he messes up and instead to now help your poor dad whose brain is now permanently broken.
Dad's going to get a lot worse. At that point, you'll wonder why any of this arguing seemed important. In the meantime, pursue your own life and enjoy it. There are lots of things to do out there, and you could be doing them.
