Find Care & Housing
Has your husband been screened for dementia by his PCP or do you just suspect he has dementia? If he has been screened for dementia by his PCP, he should have been referred to a specialist in dementia care- neurologist, gerontologist, for example. If he has yet to be evaluated, that's your first step.

Alzheimer's is by far the leading cause of dementia, but by no means the only cause. There are many, and the role of the specialist is to determine what's causing his dementia. Some dementias can be treated and some totally reversed. A specialist can make that determination by the results of family history, blood work, brain scans, etc.

There are many different types of dementias. I would spend some time on search engine. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia. Lewy's is another type. There are also dementia's caused by small strokes in certain parts of the brain. What type of dementia is occurring is a diagnosis made by a neuro-psyc doctor. Some dementias have very common symptoms. My brother has ALL the symptoms of Lewy's Bodies dementia, and he was diagnosed using those symptoms.
Do use your computer to help you be aware of the kinds of dementia, and what symptoms indicate which dementias.
