My mom is 76 and when I recognized bites on my son I knew it was bed bugs and freaked out. I've had them before. I was not working and went thru closets and tore apart the house. Spraying, powder, election outlets, curtains, clothes. My mother stays in her dark room a lot. I asked her if she was getting bit...answer no. I offered to do her room..she said no.She would do it. Then I noticed how terrible it is in her room. She cusses me out when I tell her she has to toss a ton of clothes, and her matress/box spring and wicker furniture. She cusses me out. It's to the point that they are all over her walls and if you pull back her sheets there are 20. She finally sprayed her room a few times and bought some light. And finally not only washed her sheets but her comforter too. The dryer screen had like 40 in it.we only see a few here and there in the other 3 rooms and are constantly battling to keep it that way. She just cusses me out and says she has no money. Smh. I think I may contact dss. Mind you she also thinks she won publishers clearing house every other day. What do I do? I don't want her in that. And my sons bed is new, mine too, and the couch...I bought them.

Why are you cohabitating with a mother who treats you in such a horrible way, suffers from obvious advanced dementia and chooses to live like a slob in a bug infested room?????

Get her placed in Skilled Nursing care immediately and then fumigate the house. Your first priority needs to be your son. If CPS catches wind of this, he can be taken away from you.

You need to call adult protective services and report this. You cannot sit back and watch this happen.

Your mother is a danger to herself. The bugs are probably in her ear canals too.

Good Morning,

Do you all live together in the same house? Start throwing stuff out. All you need is one. The clothing dryer is the culprit. If you don't wash the clothing on hot water and dry on high heat they can multiply like crazy. The bugs can lay eggs in the dryer if that heat is NOT extreme. You have to have the clothing dried at a particular temperature.

You need a professional exterminator yesterday. Anything upholstered is going to be a problem. Check behind headboards, check behind picture frames. You cannot do a home remedy on this. Because if you do, you will have a re-infestation. There is a new process out with heat lights. But it can affect the wax on a sprinkler system so check with the company first.

You may have to quarantine for a while...It's hard to wash 100% cotton clothing in hot water because basically everything shrinks.

Bed bugs are nocturnal...they come out at night. Throw out the mattress, check your mother's buttocks and below her breast-line. They usually don't bite the face but check her legs. I don't believe homeowner's will cover pestilence but call your mother's primary care physician to find out if there is a cream of some sort.

This is beyond going to the hardware store and buying a can of spray. You want the professionals to come in with hazmat suits and the entire family will probably have to vacate for a while. Stuff will be ruined or the spray will be all over everything.

Anyone can get them. They are brought in. Keep things well ventilated and check wicker baskets, boxes stacked in corners. Streamline everything.

Buy a mattress cover and check the "inside of the fitted sheet" as they can hide anywhere. The bugs hide in suit cases.

Don't donate anything from your house and don't buy used furniture because they can be brought into the house.

I'm sorry your are going through this. If you live in an apartment the landlord needs to be notified so the rest of the building can be exterminated. There are protocols to follow if you live in a multiple dwelling.

I agree with others, your house, this is how it is going to be. If it if your mother's house then it's time you start making decisions for her as it sounds like she has Dementia of some sort and she is unable to make sound judgments in some areas. The elderly need to be protected and cared for.

If you have to vacate, tell Mom you are all going on a family vacation!

I hope I was of some help to you...

You need a professional exterminator. Don't waste your money on OTC sprays and bombs. You need the big guns.

It does not matter whose house it is, you need an exterminator. Spraying is not going to do it, you need a bomb. You need to wash and dry everything in hot water and high heat. Moms room needs to be cleaned out. She may need a new bed.

Sounds like Mom has Dementia. She no longer makes the decisions, you do.

When I researched bedbugs, this was advertised, ZeroSonic Mini, maybe that would help.

Is mom living with you or are you and your son living with her?
If mom is living with you then "your house, your rules" comes into play here.
Her room gets a thorough cleaning.
The house gets a thorough cleaning as well.
It would also be a good idea to bring in an exterminator.
If this is an apartment or condo other units might have the same problem and this should be discussed with management.
If the only way to get through to mom how important this is is to make a report to Social Services then that is what you have to do. Not just for mom but for your son.
