Dad going to rehab from hospital. Then probably long term care. Has anyone installed a granny cam? If so, did you or your facility provide the consent forms (ie did you have to get them from an elder care attorney?)? Thanks.

State laws and regulations vary widely. Some states require facilities to allow families to install cameras if they choose. Some consider it a violation of the resident's privacy because a person with dementia can't give consent to being filmed 24/7 including while undressed or having personal conversations including those involving confidential financial, legal, spiritual, etc. matters. And in-between policies. So check what your state law says.

Where I live if a camera is in the room, a notice is posted on the door so that whoever goes into the room knows that they might be watched live and/or recorded.

We didn't use one.

I've heard of issues where such cameras could be hacked, thus others on the internet, who were interested, could see it.

I'd place one whether despite facility rules. It's your loved one. There are ways to disguise it.

If the camera is against the rules and is found, the love one could be asked to find another facility. Or whomever placed the camera could no longer visit.

We did not and I doubt the facility would have allowed it. Mom’s nursing home had open visiting time, anytime

My mom's memory care specifically prohibits any camera, but I was told I could visit day or night at any time, not just the posted visiting hours.
