The VA will provide only one so I am considering purchasing the manual one so if we ever need more, then we can get the electric one provided later. The therapist showed us videos so I have not seen either in real life. Using the slings with the electric one seem like such a hassle.
I thought maybe Medicare would help with the manual but so far I have not gotten a clear answer but it appears to be no they won't. Has anyone gotten a manual Sit-to-Stand with Medicare helping pay?
Electric is less strain on the care provider, but it will be a bit heavier and need to be plugged in to an outlet to charge.
The sit-to-stand may eventually need to be replaced with a hoyer patient lift.
That is when the patient does not have the strength to hold on and help pull themselves up. I use a manual hoyer patient lift. It is a lot of work, I have to manually "jack" the patient up. And it is incredibly heavy and hard to push - especially on carpeted floors.
Don't just rely on videos - have the therapist come and show you how to use it!
And, if you have to get someone out of bed to move them to the fancy recliner, what equipment are you going to use? I need equipment to lift my husband out of bed and into his lift recliner. He can not stand at all on his own.
We then picked out a Lazy-Boy powered recliner on sale. We didn't get heat or massage in the chair, just a basic unit. I'm thinking it was in the $500 range on sale. It does a decent job with standing assistance and it's a darn good recliner that can be used for sleeping in a more upright position.
