Hi
I’m in the UK and I’ve been ‘invited’ to apply for Deputyship for Health and Welfare for my mum. I’ve heard that deputyship for H&W is rarely given and it’s not cheap to arrange or maintain. Since Mum is now in care, is it worth my while applying, or should I now leave devisions to the LA and/or medics. I have F&P LPA but several people tell me H&W may nit be necessary in my case, what do people think?

I've done a little reading and I think petitioning the court for a formal H&W is not necessary, as far as I can see the only reason to seek it out would be if there is a family disagreement about care or if your mum herself is fighting being in care, then you may need that legal authority to be the one to make those decisions.

Thank you. I’ve been researching too, and you’ve helped me reach a conclusion. It wouldn’t worth my while methinks. Thank you

Hi Tribble, I'm not sure we have any other current members from the UK so you may not find an answer to your question here. We may be able to help in a general sense if you explain what all those initials mean and the authority they invoke - is H&W is akin to guardianship/conservatorship?
