The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. Everyone here has given you sound advice. Talk to a divorce lawyer. If the house was bought by you before you were married it should be considered your property even if he paid bills. Ask the lawyer about the property and if there's any assets that your husband may have access to. Usually first consultations are free. You won't be turned out of your home because your husband wants to live in an AL facility. Also, if your husband thinks he's being clever refusing to allow a divorce, he's not. You have residency in the state of California. If you have no minor children and don't have joint assets. You can get a legal divorce in Mexico for cheap. My ex and I did not have property together and no kids. It would have cost more to do it here even though my ex didn't fight me on it. I got the divorce and a vacation out of it and it still cost less than if I did it here. Call a divorce lawyer and discuss this possibility with them. Then call a couple of your friends and see if they want to take a vacation.
I feel like someone is testing us to see if we answer differently when the situation is a woman who needs care asking if the estranged husband has to pay versus a woman asking if she has to pay for her estranged husband's care and frankly I'm a little surprised how polar opposite the answers are.
California is a community property state. Since you bought your home there before the marriage, it should remain your separate property, but who paid the mortgage payments, and who paid for improvements to the property? Be prepared to discuss these points with the lawyer and take such records to your appointment with him/her.
