Ativan is NOT a sleep medication. Please call your doctor to discuss why you should not be taking an anti anxiety drug to help you sleep.

Anti anxiety meds are prescribed at times if anxiety is the reason someone does not fall asleep .
This can allow someone to fall asleep without taking a sleep med that is meant to have someone stay asleep who wakes up too soon .
I did not take Ativan , but was prescribed another anti anxiety med , for a couple of months, so I could fall asleep when waiting for my father to die . It worked and once I was asleep I stayed asleep on my own for the night . I was not groggy the next day at all .
This was what we tried first to avoid the daytime grogginess that is common with sleeping pills.

You are on a forum of caregivers. Mostbof are Seniors caring for Seniors.

Anytime you have a question like this, you need to call the doctor who prescribed it. I personally can't take Tylenol PM. I have a hard time waking up. Can't imagine what I would be like taking a prescribed sleeping pill.

This is an undesired but not rare side effect . Go back to your doctor and tell them , maybe they can give you a different med to try .

BTW , you look young. This is a forum regarding elder care issues .
