DebraAnn, your best bet is to work at a caregiving company as an employee, that way you can get some first hand knowledge and experience with working with all types of patients. Working with family, you are just seeing a tiny percentage of what is required.

Also, you will need to have a healthy savings account, as starting a business can be expensive. You need to know how to do background checks on future employees, and what State laws there are regarding caregiving. You would need a county/city business license, and possible a State license. Liability insurance will be costly, so speak to an insurance agent. Your employees would need workman's comp insurance. Then there is payroll. Clothing for your employees. An office to work out of, unless where you live allows you to have an at-home business where employees come and go.
