Mom has 2 inoperative incision abdominal hernias anyone have any ideas or experience with managing hernias? She is 93 and otherwise in extremely good health. She is lucid and able to do all ADL herself.. Surgeon who removed gall bladderal as she had gangrene, has told us he will only operate if it is an emergency. He says she is frail, In the past she has had several abdominal surgeries. Any good ideas would be appreciated as she gets pretty bad pains when the hernia acts up. Sometimes she gets these pains after being up and walking and or sitting for over 2 hours other times no reasonable explanation why she gets these pains. They range in a scale from 1-10 around a 3-8 lasting about 25 mins to an hour.

My Dad used a wedge under his pillow so he did not lay flat. I cannot remember if he was operated on for it. Maybe she should not sit for 2 hrs. And when she is walking is she using a walker? And if so, is she using it correctly? She should not be leaning over it. It should be adjusted to her height. You push it a little bit and walk into it. Some people push it ahead of them like a lawnmower. Done correctly you should be standing as straight as possible.
