Medicaid is based on income and having no assets but maybe a house, which is exempt to a certain degree. There are really no prgrams, other than Medicaid out there. The pay is low and hours minimal. Not 24/7 care.

No one should give up a job to care for someone. It affects their future Social Security and pension they may receive. If a person needs 24/7 care and 65 or older, they need to be placed. I also to not feel a son should be taking care of his mother. Me, a daughter, told my brothers I would not be caring for Dad if Mom went before him.

Does your brother WANT to take care of your mother, and why don't you want to take care of her, or at least help him?
Like already said, your mother can pay your brother herself, or if your mother is on Medicaid, they do have a program that will pay for a caregiver a few hours a week that your brother can look into.
Ideally though your brother should have a better paying job than the little he'll make caring for his mother(unless your mother is a millionaire that is and can afford to pay him well), and if that means she goes into the appropriate facility...so be it.

I agree that this probably can be done. Does your brother have the skills and the patience to meet all her needs? Showering, toileting, meals housekeeping etc,,?

Can you give us more information? I mean, we'd all like some kind of magical way to get paid for the caregiving we do.

It's usually a better plan for the prospective caregiver to keep their "real" job that has benefits, pays into social security, etc. and then hire an actual caregiver.

Your mother could pay him to take care of her.
