My moms snf hadn't been changing her briefs but once in 8 hours. She's total care . I've complained twice to administrators but it continued . She has skin breakdown from urine and stool. We have a camera in her room. What is the next step to take? File complaint with DHS?

Kalamazoo, you should contact the ombudsman for that facility. Not changing briefs that has led to skin breakdown is a criminal offense, it is neglect and I'm sure other charges follow this kind of care.

Please call today and leave a message if you must, this is dangerous for your mom and the other vulnerable elders experiencing the lack of care from this facility.

I am so sorry you are faced with this crisis in care, and yes, this is a crisis that should force change.

#1. Did you put your complaint in writing?
Send your Complaint BY CERTIFIED MAIL to the Director and the Senior Staff Supervisor of the facility. In your letter, be specific. Dates, times, etc. Specify that you expect an Answer to your Complaint within 10 business days.
#2. If Complaint is not answered, send a Second Notice again by Certified Mail.
#3. If Complaints are not addressed by facility, it's time to hire an elder-care attorney.
Do not hesitate to act. An attorney should be able to provide a free consultation, even by phone.

I think I would start with the ombudsman, but I'm not American so I'm answering to bump up your question so more people will find it (it probably got lost among all the spam posts)
