We have a terrible older type hospital bed that is rented from Super Care. My mother's Medicare Advantage Plan pays 100% for it. The mattress is extremely uncomfortable. I would like suggestions a comfortable, washable topper that can be partially rolled or bunched up so I can roll my mother side to side in bed to be able to get it under her or to remove it to wash it. She is bedridden & cannot stand or walk. She has a difficult time rolling onto her side, & needs help doing it. She cannot bend her knees to lift herself backside up off the mattress. Please include where you purchased your suggested pad, & possibly the cost. Thank you so much~
This will have an airflow that make it more comfortable. Some of them even have tube like structures that will inflate and deflate so that there is constant movement.
Any mattress will breakdown over time. How old is the one that you have been renting? Maybe it is time that it is replaced anyway.
Also check that it is the mattress that is uncomfortable and not the bed itself. hospital beds do not have a "box spring" or box support under it so the metal springs and supports can be felt.
Maybe what is needed is something UNDER the mattress so that the springs and bar supports are not felt through the mattress.
I just used a sheet to roll my Husband . I would roll the sheet right up to his side then I would stand on the opposite side of the bed, grab the rolled up sheet and gently roll him towards me. (Placing my hands near his hip and shoulder allowed me to support him while easily rolling him) to roll him the other way I would repeat the process rolling the sheet on his other side.
To slide him up on the bed I would lower the head of the bed as much as I could, raise the foot of the bed and let gravity help me slide him towards the head of the bed. to slide him down in the bed, raise the head, lower the foot.
