Your loved one may not require home care or assisted living services at this time. However, continue to monitor their condition for changes and consider occasional in-home care services for help as needed.
Remember, this assessment is not a substitute for professional advice.
Share a few details and we will match you to trusted home care in your area:
I will add, there is no perfection in aging care. That's due to the fact that you have a certain number of residents, and their needs vary, and you have a limited number of staff (often not particularly well-paid). As a lifelong RN, the day dictates what it will in terms of crisis, and when one patient needs all you have, others are let down.
So, attitude is important here. You are often going to feel let down. Do the best you can to decide what mountain you will die on in advocating for an elder you love.
Know that there is no perfection in aging care. I wish you the very best. GO to the facilities. Walk around with staff. Even ask if you can have lunch and visit with residents. Taking the time is your best chance.
When you sign on to the site, you have the option to put your zipcode in to find homecare or senior housing.
We are a forum of caregivers from all over the US. We really can't help you find a place in Dallas unless one of us lives there. You need to decide what type of facility you want. Assisted Living, Memory care or Longterm Care. Then, how is it going to be paid for? Assisted Living and Memory care are private pay not usually paid by Medicaid. Longterm is too unless the person qualifies for Medicaid. There are Communities that have all 3.
If you want a lot of honest and current information, join Nextdoor.com and post "ISO recommendations for nursing home" You won't need to put the zip code because Nextdoor is a non-anonymous intranet of your neighborhood and surrounding communities. I use it all the time for all sorts of recommendations.
Margaret has given a very good answer but I also would like to add that what I would accept as "Safe and caring" might be different than what you might think of as safe and caring, You can also look at the Medicare website they do have reviews on facilities. You can search "Social" media for reviews as well. And what type of facility do you really need? Do you really need a "nursing home" That seems to be a catch all phrase for any facility. Is the need for Assisted Living or Memory Care. What typically was called a "nursing home" is a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and this is for people that have the need for medical care as opposed to custodial care
It's up to you to do this research yourself. No-one will do it for you. Anyway, facilities provide different options that suit some residents and their families better (or worse). You need to match your own LO's needs and wants to what each facility can offer.
However Ageing Care (who own and pay for this site, bless their cotton socks) offer a 'finder service' that might be a good start.
