My 81 year old mother is in hospice. She lives with me and caring for her. She has fatty liver disease/non-alcoholic cirrhosis. She will have bursts of energy some days, and other in bed all day, so very much a roller coaster. Yesterday she threw up blood and like blood clot looking jelly, same came out her rectum, it was just running out of her. This lasted for about 30 min. The nurse said to give her morphine to relax and sleep. Shes agitated and when awake shes not focusing on my but looking at the ceiling, I could tell she wanted a drink and she took 2 big sips from her straw. I know we can't give a date for death but does this sound like it could be the end? My 2 sisters and myself are nervous wrecks, doing our best to keep up with mom, every day is something new. We just want her to pass peacefully and she can be at peace and so can we. I know hospice is for patients that have 6 months to live, but this is only month 2 of hospice and cant imagine doing this for 4 more. Anything shared is appreciated, thank you!
My mother, who died from dementia, was in and out of hospice care for 2.5 years.
