SSA and other federal alphabet agencies don't care about POA, a caregiver has to fill out a form to be allowed to manage a LO's federal pension.
Just wondering if anyone has taken on becoming RP with more than one federal agency.

I am payee for my disabled nephew who receives his deceased Mother's government pension. When he received it, he was living with my Mom. A separate account had to be set up and she was made payee. When she was diagnoised with Dementia, I wrote the agency and explained the situation and they allowed me to become payee.

The money is automatically deposited every month in the acct that was set up. (His SSD also was deposited in same acct). Monthly, I transfer this money to his checking account. When he worked, I only deposited what he needed to pay bills. But he has not worked since COVID so I now transfer the full amount. Every so often, and its been a while, I get a form asking questions I need to fill out and return. I know in the beginning Mom was told to keep receipts of how the money was used but they never asked her or I for proof. His bankstatement shows he pays his bills with this money. For me, thats proof. His SSD is now on a debit card. This makes his life so much easier since he is homebound. He can order on line and do doordash.

It works pretty much like a Social Security payment. Like SS, he gets a raise every year. I have had no problems being payee. I never became payee for my Mom for her SS and pension. I was on her bank acct besides being POA. I just paid her bills and signed as POA. SS, I think, may require a yearly accting of where the money is spent. I never even thought about being a payee.

JoAnn, I appreciate your input. I hadn't thought of becoming an RP either until I couldn't access benefits verification letters. Neither SSA or OPM care a jot about a POA.

Hopefully I'm overthinking the need for new checking accounts for each pension; the rules aren't that detailed. But simple math can show how each is used up during the month so...
