My husband with dementia (MHwD)(88) no longer drives; car is in both his name and mine. Should I renew his license (for ID) and do I need to change insurance to say that he's no longer driving? Or should I take his name off the registration (which would necessitate insurance change)?

I think you need to go to your local DMV office. Different states have different laws. You may need a doctors letter saying he now has Dementia. You may have to have him with you. You can change his license to an ID only. The registration you will need to ask the DMV about. Call your insurance company about taking him off the policy. Like laws, Insurance companies are different too.

Don’t renew as a DL, he needs a state ID only. Call your DMV to find out the process.

Yes, take his name off the insurance as a driver.

If his name is on the car title as “and” I would also take his name off of it.
