Do you use 15 minute increments (divide their hourly rate into 15 minute segments)? When I asked the private pay/private duty caregiver how their other clients manage this, they said if they work an extra 20 minutes, they get compensated as if they'd been there an extra 30 minutes. I feel like there's no incentive for them to hurry through their tasks (if they do in fact take longer than an hour on some days, if I ask them to help with additional tasks), so they reach that 20 minute mark and therefore get an extra half hour.
I'd much rather pay then on an extra 15 minute basis (like with timesheets at a job, having to record your clock in and clock out times in 15 minute segments), but they didnt seem to like this. I feel like we are regularly passing 10 minutes back and forth and it's getting frusterating-i'm not trying to nick and dime them, but if I lose 10 minutes each weekday shift, that's nearly an hour. What is the best process for this? To note, this is an in demand caregiver who has unique skills that we can't get from just any aide-so they really have the upper hand-they're helping us by adding us into their already packed schedule-I just wish I could use them for the full time and/or feel like I could ask them to do additional tasks without feeling unsure how to compensate them fairly for both parties.
