Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. APFM does not (and may not) require or even ask consumers seeking senior housing or care services in Washington State to sign waivers of liability for losses of personal property or injury or to sign waivers of any rights established under law.I agree that: A.I authorize A Place For Mom ("APFM") to collect certain personal and contact detail information, as well as relevant health care information about me or from me about the senior family member or relative I am assisting ("Senior Living Care Information"). Your wife can get Aid and Attendance if you too are getting it. You getbit as a married couple. Check it out with a VA rep. Your County should have an office. Call your Office of Aging. If your low income, Medicaid may be able to help.
Generally the VA will help Veterans not the spouse. Aid and Attendance is for surviving spouses so she would not qualify until after your death. (I would advise you to check with your local Veterans Assistance Commission or the VA to determine what your benefits might be. This may help you now as well as later. The VA keeps changing and adding conditions that may be considered "Service Connected")
At this point you can check with your local Senior Service Center and see if there are any programs you may qualify for. Find out if there are any Adult Day Programs in the area she can participate in. Begin getting a Caregiver in for at least a few days a week. This will get her used to having someone help out. You can begin by just saying it is a "cleaning service"
If you and your do not yet have your "legal ducks in a row" begin that now. you will have to see a lawyer, I suggest an Elder Care Attorney. If the attorney does not think she is competent to sign legal documents it may get more complicated so make the appointment for the time of day when she is at her best. Better yet if you can arrange the lawyer to come to your house where she is more comfortable that might be better. You need POA for Health and Finances. You should have a POLST (known by other names in different States) You need to know what her wishes are in a medical emergency. And if you do have all this paperwork done and if she is YOUR POA for Health and Finances that has to change as she is not competent to make those decisions any longer.
You'll have to contact your local VA office to see what you may qualify for, as we are just a bunch of caregivers from all over the US and beyond, and won't know what you may qualify for. Also if you and your wife are on Medicaid they may be able to pay you for a few hours a week for your wife's care, but again...you'll have to call them to find out. However most spouses DO NOT get paid for caring for their sick spouse as caring for them is just part of being married.
