My brother is active and loves to have fun riding his harley or out on his boat but, his diabetes is getting the best of him. He just had part of his foot amputated. He needs a little help with his meds and the basics, little laundry a few dishes. shopping. He has a extra room and could pay something Im not sure what. Is there anyone that would be willing to talk with him or point him in the right direction.
If your brother isn't doing this himself, then maybe he hasn't yet figured out he needs help? Or is in denial? If you are helping him you need to back away and allow him to feel the need to hire someone. As long as you are his only solution he won't see the need himself or look for help on his own. Don't enable him, he's a grown man. You can't want his care more than he wants it himself.
FYI having a live-in aid is not a good idea for many reasons. You can find those discussion threads here on this forum, even recently posted.
Or would it be better to hire someone (not live-in) that can come over a few hours a day to help your brother? Then he can check with Care.com to see if someone would be able to help at a reasonable cost.
Did your brother had rehabilitation after his foot surgery? Hopefully he did or is scheduled to do so. Rehab is great at showing how he can manage after his foot surgery with walking, stairs, how to do laundry, etc.
If he doesn't hire through an agency, brother must provide insurance, tax withholding, etc. himself. This can be tedious. It is illegal to pay under the table. ILLEGAL. The last thing brother needs is trouble with the IRS.
Good luck!
