My elderly mum went into hospital last Saturday she's not coping at all she's a total mess crying to get out lashing out at the nurses not mum at all she was as quiet as a mouse a lovely lady,I explained in my last post she's dilerium..I noticed she's covered in bruises in both legs nurses said it's from banging the door to get out They are giving her seditves to knock her out..I'm thinking is she better off if we get her home as she's going doing hill very fast cause she's in hospital it's too stressful for her I'm in turmoil over her hate seeing her like that I don't know wat to do I'm lost over her seeing her distressed state. The nurses are not giving us an update on a plan in place about her all were listening to is she's confused agitated those two words but not good enough she don't have UTI we asked about that, I don't know wat to do anymore about her.

I’m sorry you’re having to watch this with your mother. I experienced with my dad while hospitalized and it was indeed frightening. You didn’t share mom’s medical condition, is it something that can be effectively and safely handled in a home setting? The hospital will have a social worker and discharge planner you can meet with one of them to get a better idea what the plan is going forward and express your concerns. I wish you and mom both peace

Hospitals are great for acute care but are no place for the elderly, especially those with dementia who can't advocate for themselves. It sounds like whatever brought her to the hospital has been alleviated, so why is she still in hospital rather than moving to a care home?

Give the meds time to work. You really have no assurance that she'll do better at home; the delirium can last a while, but at least at the hospital they are trained to know what to do about it. At home, you would be dealing with it, and some of the behavior can be very difficult both for the patient and family caregivers. Unless you're a health care worker yourself, she may be better off where she is once she is properly medicated.

I'm very sorry that this has happened to your mum.

Why is she in the hospital? Have you considered a care home?
