She was at my sister's house and he manipulated her. He signed her up for hospice CMO. I am a nurse and I never experienced this situation. Scheduled morphine, depriving her from eating, etc. She is fading and I expect the worst. He took it upon himself and had no intention to tell me. If it wasn’t for my sister I would never have known. My mother was requesting to go outside for fresh air but the nursing home is running to call him. He said nope, it's like a jail for her.

I'm so sorry for your family's distressing situation. We can't judge what is going on since we only have your side of the story. Sometimes family are in denial that a loved one is actually dying and *needs* to be on hospice so that their last days are comfortable. No one ever likes being in a facility. If she has cognitive or memory impairment she will all the more be unable to understand the reason why she's there.

Facilities are mandated reporters for abuse. I don't think there's anything you can do BUT if you wish to visit your Mother, ask your brother if he'd be open to a supervised visit so he can see you are only there to visit her and not stir up trouble.

A POA cannot simply "sign someone up for hospice"......a doctor must order the evaluation and the hospice nurse must determine the patient has 6 months or less to live. Otherwise, you're describing murder on demand which is illegal and not the purpose of hospice.

My condolences on your situation. Geaton has a good idea about asking your brother for a supervised visit. Good luck.

It's strange that you're a nurse but you don't seem to know about hospice. Hospice provides symptom and pain managment for patients judged to have six months or less to live. Morphine is for pain, it's not like taking your cat to the vet to be put to sleep. Hospice also doesn't deny the patient food, if they are requesting food and they have the physical ability to swollow without choking or getting aspiration pneumonia. People who are in the process of dying do not need to eat because their body won't process the food properly and it's painful to the patient.

Why did your brother stop you from visiting? Were you trying to feed your mom against medical direction or take her out of the nursing home? Maybe if you reach out to your brother and agree to follow the rules of the facility and the hospice doctor or nurse you can visit again.
