Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. Yes, I understand that but if she were private pay at $5k per month she would prob get nicer facility than being on Medicaid.. at $5k her money would last three times as long.. at $15k per month she will outlive her money and have to be in a Medicaid room which will not be as nice.
You live in one of the THE most expensive states. Everything is more expensive in NJ. You will have to go farther afield to get a $5-7k per month nursing home. According to the After55 website, the cheapest states for assisted living are Georgia, South Carolina and Arkansas.
I sure can't speak to Nursing Homes, but ALF here in California vary widely to sections of the State. The Bay Area of San Francisco where I live costs easily TWICE what the So. Cal Palm Springs area cost. My bro died in May; prior to that he had two wonderful rooms in one of the Cottages on a great campus of an ALF. He paid 4,095 on the first level of care. His ex partner, then friend paid 2,400 for a single large room, bath, on same campus. It was even less in another of the facilities run by this Company, about 40 miles away. Could not touch those prices in my area of the State. It does vary so "very" much.
My mother is paying $6550 a month for a Memory Care ASSISTED LIVING facility here in the burbs of Colorado! A SNF is $10K a month minimum for a private room.
You need to come South. I live in the Southwest part of NJ. Its been 3 yrs but my Mom was paying for a small AL about 5k a month. She was getting pretty much full care. The only thing she could do was feed herself. We got in on a room sale though. The other facility we have is AL and memory care combined. It was 5k for AL and 7k for MC. This one was owned by Drs the other was private.
Like I responded to another post, other than our property taxes and car insurance you cannot put North and South NJ in the same boat. We have said for years the State should be divided because of our cultural differences. Our governors decisions, with COVID, are based on what is happening in NYS and Conn. We here in the South are not as effected as those in the North.
A few years ago my Dad was paying $12k for my Mom's nursing home, which was located in northern Virginia, suburb of Wash DC. Mom shared a room. I did her personal laundry. It's all location, location, location. And how far does one want to drive to visit. Thankfully the nursing home was just one mile from my Dad's house and from mine.
Some places offer one price for everything, other places have a base price with a menu of options that can add up quickly to the one price offered elsewhere.
Thankfully my parents had saved for that "rainy day" as it was storming out there.
Self pay for a shared room? In my area, the nursing homes have 2 wings. One wing has private rooms that are self pay, the other has shared rooms that are Medicaid paid. The private rooms cost over $400/day. The better nursing homes will ensure the safety of all residents though, and if a Medicaid resident needs more supervision, they will accommodate to perhaps a private room if need be.
One that I had priced for my father, if he would agree to use a facility (which he wouldn't) was $5K base, with amenities it rose to about $6500. It was in a tony subdivision in a well developed county with a lot of competition.
And besides cost of living, etc., competition might be the other major factor.
